Operating and Maintenance Tips
When not in use, store your Colorado spotting scope with the protective lens cap and dust cap in a cool and moisture free environment. To clean the lens, use a small bristle brush to remove any dust or dirt and then use a soft cloth moistened with alcohol. Wipe lenses from center outward and avoid touching the lens, as fingerprints will smear the lens. To clean body parts, use a soft cloth with warm water and mild soap to remove dirt. When using your spotting scope, avoid directly viewing the sun or any light source as it can cause permanent eye damage.

While the optics are clear, you do have to mash your eye up all the way to the eye cup to see the entire scene. So, wearing protective eye gear will prohibit that.
So, with that said, now on to the big con. Upon trying to rotate the zoom ring on the eye piece (which is labeled with the power settings), it would not budge. There is an outer ring that is attached to the scope housing that has a red dot on it to indicate which power setting it is set to IF you can rotate the eye piece.
After giving it a little more force, the entire mount began turning (not the eye piece as it should). I could feel a grinding inside and then the rubber coating began to peel around the mount. It was obvious that this was NOT how to set the zoom. While this did change the focal length, it is just not how it's supposed to be done.
I contacted Barska directly and after explaining the situation to the representative, she agreed that the scope was defective and needed to be sent back for a replacement (which is what I'm doing).
I just checked a previous review that was posted yesterday and the reviewer had the same problem. Is this perhaps a bad batch of scopes? Who knows. Hopefully the replacement will work.
I just received the replacement in. At first, I thought I was about to have the same problem with the zoom ring because it wouldn't budge. I had to firmly press down on the outside ring (to keep it from moving) while forcefully attempt to turn the zoom ring. The ring gradually, yet slowly, freed itself and started to turn. After a while, and several back and forth rotations, the zoom ring finally began operating smoothly.
What the eff is up with that? Well, it works now. One thing I noticed is when zooming in, you really have to press your eye up against the eye piece in order to see the entire image. But I guess I shouldn't expect much at this price. I just don't see myself dropping over a grand for one from Nikon.
Still not a Leupold scope, but man, it is really good for the price.
I had an artifact on my lens, but I was expecting this to be even worse for the price, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Seems well made with good zoom and sharp focus. Comes with a nice carry bag to protect it while walking down to the rifle stations.
My only real complaint is that the eye relief on this scope is just awful, you really have to be right up on it to get any kind of field of view at all. (I'm talking - take your hat and sunglasses off and put your eyebrow against it to see.) Works at the range but would be pretty annoying for real outdoor type nature viewing.
For normal 100-200 yard target shooting with .22 to .30-06 on white paper, this spotting scope works very well.
