About this new design, after receiving the machine I noticed that they had changed the mechanical design of the brewing system. Since Bosch acquired Saeco they decided to use the same brewer system as the much cheaper Saeco machines. I have had 2 of these Saeco machines and had to sell both of them because of the maintenance nightmare. I thought that because this is a newer technology maybe they have improved the machine. Not really, first it was with the water level sensor in the drip tray, I had to call Thermador service to come out and look at the machine because it will occasionally prompt that the drip tray had to be emptied even though we just made two cups of coffee. The service person said this was a normal problem and the only thing that I could do is return the unit and get a different brand, huh! So we continue to have to live through this issue, especially when our friends come and stay with us we had to go out and buy a Nespresso machine and pods so they could use the machine without running into problems.
The other issue is with the Brewer Group unit, this is a joke. It has always been a joke with the Saeco machines I previously had and I even bought one for my daughter that she said she stopped using. Constant cleaning, I would spend hours cleaning the unit to clear out coffee grounds that gets stuck in the brewer. The latest as of this morning is the grinder got clogged up with coffee grounds. What the heck? This is a coffee machine that grinds coffee why would the grounds clog the grinder?
So is this machine worth the $3,500 I spent, absolutely not. I would not recommend this machine to anyone, stay clear of these machines. I have been evaluating a Jenn Air JBC7624BS built-in unit and so far loving it. I am giving 2 Stars because it does make good tasting coffee.
It is a smart coffee maker that has can pretty much produce any coffee drink you like via voice commands - say you want a course ground, extra hot, extra foam, mocha latte with a side of sadness you just tell Alexa and the machine does the rest.
I like black coffee so I will never use any of the functions of the system, but that is irrelevant. This machine is more of a status symbol, it says to the world you waited an ungodly amount of time for something you will rarely use and could sell right now for twice what you paid, but instead decided to foot the cost of professional installation (power, waterlines, filters etc.) just so that someday when you list your house for sale people can gawk at how patient and cool you must be to have gotten one.
Checkmate!
With that said, I am fine with it, as it is easy to use and fast. The ability to make specialty coffee is great, and the iPhone app that controls the machine is nice. I use the coffee memory feature, as my wife has her blend and I have mine. If I was building a new house, I would investigate other brands to install.
