I was looking for a quick sandwich plate to make grilled cheese or ham and cheese sandwiches. I saw this item and ordered it. Here is what I found:
1. There is NO off or on switch on this unit! This is a real pain and can be dangerous depending upon where your plug is located. There is also NO adjustment for temperature. So, you will have to deal with what they give you. This means watching your time VERY carefully.
2. This is a VERY inexpensively made item. The parts are very thin and light. Be careful of the edges of the plates as they are sharp enough to cut. I took a piece of emery cloth to the edges and that took care of the problem.
3. Do NOT expect this to be fast!! It takes time to heat up and then it takes time for it to cook.
4. Do NOT expect to make a nice thick sandwich on this unit! It was not designed to handle more than two thicknesses of cheese that are pre-sliced. So, if you want to add ham to this, think very thin pieces.
5. This unit is NOT designed to cook raw meat!!!!!!!! Only fully cooked meat is to be used on this unit according to the instructions.
6. Do NOT use spray cooking oil at it will burn onto it. Use regular oil to coat the plates or use butter.
7. The plates do come off easily and you can put them in the dishwasher for easy clean up.
8. This is a very small unit. Two slices of standard bread will barely fit side by side on this unit.
All in all, this is an ok item, but not one that I would recommend.
