After hearing so many negative reviews and comments about B'DAY, I wasn't sure what to expect. I do know that I loved DEJA VU from the moment I heard it. The song is one of the few stand-out tracks and totally reminded me of an old school Teena Marie song with the funky beats, the horns & the entire musical production of the track. (I hated the video though).
RING THE ALARM - has grown on me after I initially hated it. It's a different type of song for Bee - it's angry tone plus the hyper materialistic lyrics initially turned me off but being able to see the video (which I liked) and hearing it a few more times changed my opinion.
GREEN LIGHT - I love this song for the music production alone! It is a fun dance track and I love her telling her man that GREEN MEANS GO!!!
FREAKUM DRESS - love the go go beats
KITTY KAT - love the music production despite the ridiculous lyrics
IRREPLACEABLE - really nice mid-tempo song
Although she sings her heart out in LISTEN & RESENTMENT, neither song moved me in any way which is my ultimate gripe about Beyonce - she can definitely sing with the best of them but it's the kind of soulless singing that never touches my heart and ultimately makes none of her songs memorable to me.
I'm not a music fan who gets upset if an artist produces an album with 10 tracks IF there are 7 or 8 strong singles and 2 fillers at best. The most recent album I bought that fit this bill was Toni Braxton's but unfortunately out of the 12 songs on this disc, I really only liked 6.
My suggestion to Beyonce is that like her stronger contemporaries (who shall be nameless) she should take some time and LIVE a little, travel, relax & enjoy herself so that some of her experiences can be expressed in her music.
I don't think this album is as bad as others have proclaimed and think that it's more of a disappointment given their expectations. As a music fan, I don't think of Beyonce as an "artist" who will produce songs that stand the test of time; she is an "entertainer" who tries to give the public what they've bought in the past & seem to enjoy. If this project had been more of a failure, THEN maybe she would go back to the drawing board and come harder next time but unfortunately I truly think that this type of album and the slightly above average DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE is the best that she can and will ever do. Would recommend downloading the tracks that you like after sampling the tracks.
