The inside of the boot is lined and it is so soft. It almost feels like you're wearing slippers. It also keeps your feet incredibly warm. Overall this is a really comfortable winter boot. I have another pair of bearpaw boots that are just past my ankles that aren't as comfortable as this pair. These come up to about the middle of your calf.
Normally I wear a 7 1/2, but I bought an 8 and it fits perfectly. I sometimes wear bulkier socks in winter, and tuck my pants into my boots and the extra 1/2 size is perfect for accomodating those two things.
I sprayed waterproofing on my boots in the AM & in the afternoon walked 2 miles on a snow-packed road & trail with 10 inches of snow. We walked for about an hour in 15 degrees F & my feet stayed cozy & warm wearing cheap, white, cotton socks (the kind you buy 6 pair to a bag).
The down side of these boots is that the soles are flat with only line drawings of oak leaves, a bear paw, & the word Bearpaw cut about 1/8 inch deep in the TPR (thermoplastic rubber) outer sole. I will take these to a shoe repair shop & have better tread glued to the bottom so I won't slip in snow & ice. I like the boots enough to go to this added time & expense.
Also, I trimmed the fur (fake sheep) lining that sticks out from the top & side opening to make it look neat & not fake. Some fake fur has an uneven look to it, unlike sheared lamb that holds its shape. Looks fine now.
UPDATE: After wearing these several weeks, I like them even more. Very comfy & warm. Didn't have tread glued on, just don't use for hiking. They're too pretty for that anyway.
However, the toggles on my first pair fell off the first week (again, they were not being strained) and the second pair lasted two weeks before the toggle came off and the boot separated from the sole!
They were not water resistant from the start...not at all.
I don't think I give hisses and boos all around very often, but these deserve it.
