Lane and Miranda are brought together with the loss of their respective siblings. They have to be civil enough to be able to decide how best to raise their mutual nephew. Lane would be smart not to underestimate Miranda. Lane is an alpha male, sometimes even an alpha-jerk if he did not get his way. He used his power and means to threaten and intimidate people. Lane just can't seem to get it right. He makes mistake after mistake in his high handed manner in dealing with Miranda. While she is from the "other side of the tracks" she has made a name for herself in her own right and Lane would do best to remember that. Problem is...Lane keeps forgetting and uses his power and manipulation.
The twist and turns this book takes you on keeps you on the edge of you seat and up all night. This book had suspense, off the charts love scenes (need water nearby) sexual tension, conflict and major trust issues to overcome, strong secondary characters and excellent character development.
I can't wait to see where the author is going to go in the next book in the series. Reed and Skye's story leaves me with wistful anticipation!
It seems that the prevailing themes in this book is that you cannot judge a book by its cover and special compassion is given to those who are not rich or who are gay which is the case with the annoying Theo who seems to have the wisdom to know everything about a potential heterosexual romance.
I just don't get the "gay man" best friend angle and sharing intimate secrets about a straight man with him and asking for advice. After all, he does not know the hearts and minds of every straight man and I don't necessarily believe in the special powers of "gaydar" to detect a trifling, down low man in every case!!
I disliked that two women were brought in to allow the female half of the couple to live out her fantasy. However, I was left wondering if she would have been just as tolerant if her man wanted (or needed) two men sexing each other to reach his highest heights of pleasure.
And, I laughed out loud imagining if the man he fantasized about happened to be her gay BFF, Theo, because after all, a gay male best friend would never ever fantasize about his best girl's guy let alone be front and center in his real life fantasy. (Ha!)
I have a issues with these prevailing themes weaved throughout some of her other books (one I never finished because of this), but I will probably finish out the series with the sister and depending on how that goes, I may or may not continue reading her works.
Find her on Facebook: Author SK and be sure to read her Sin City Heat Series as well as The Honey Trap!
