I like that it also comes with a DVD full of music videos from the album

I guess I can be considered a fan but not in a traditional sense. I appreciate her level of performance and I think she has a nice voice. I do take issue with her on some issues not related to her performance endeavors but that's the out of touch with reality industry as a whole. Regardless, I love to see what she's going to come up with next. How will she stay current and relevant? How will she appeal to the fickle music audience? Simply put, she's fun to watch. I was leery about her latest effort. I hesitated buying it. Then I saw the video snippets and threw caution to the wind. The music is current, well written, edgy, nicely produced and different from her earlier releases. Well done.
Pros: This is a mature Beyonce. This album includes some tunes reminiscent of old R&B like Rocket ; beautiful ballads like Blue and Heaven and some hip hop done in the most current rhythms found on mixtapes like Drunk in Love and Partition. The songs are well written and makes you question their meaning. Top shelf producers and guest artists like Drake, Frank Ocean, Justin Timberlake, Timbaland, Pharrell and of course, Mr. Carter--Jay-Z add some sick beats and rhymes to the music.
Cons: If you are not used to hearing swearing and overt sexual references in songs you might be offended. This album leaves you wanting a cigarette (If you know what I mean). It is jarring at first. Because it is not "in your face" pop music that you are used to hearing from her, it will take a few times to get into it. You will not find a lot to dance to on this one. Many of the songs are slow to mid tempo.
Overall, I'm glad I purchased it. I have all of her solo albums and I haven't been disappointed yet!

The videos for this album are located in the cloud but Amazon didn't tell us that they are only available on a PC or Mac.
I just purchased this album on my Android phone and only the MP3s downloaded. After speaking with customer service I discovered that the only way to download the videos is by going to the Amazon Cloud Player on your computer and downloading it.
Here's what Amazon Customer Service emailed me:
Any bonus content included with your album is listed alongside the rest of the album tracks in your Cloud Player library. You can access bonus content after downloading it to your computer. Downloading bonus content works just like downloading music.
To download bonus content tracks individually through your web browser:
1. Open your Cloud Player: http://www.amazon.com/cloudplayer
2. Check the box next to a single bonus content track
3. Click "Download"
4. In the download window your web browser opens, choose "Save"
Once downloaded, your computer will use the default program assigned to the download's file type to open or play your bonus content.

Even though Amazon stubbornly refuses to sell this Career Defining Album by this Country's Most Ingenius Pop Artist in traditional album form , I purchased the downloadable visual album from Amazon as a show of support for an Artist that I love and a Web Portal that i grow more and more dependant and fond of everyday.
The Album is my single greatest purchase of the year . To say that Mrs. Carter has outdone herself and every single one of her peers with a work of stunning maturity, prophetic musicality and wondrous vocal power is an understatement. This collection of instant classics proves that the current state of American Popular Music is alive and well and thriving and, like the resurgence of American Television, in a Golden Age. A 32 year old African American Woman from the Lonestar State is in fact the Lone Star to guide this breathtaking Revival speaks to our culture and it's ability to discover and promote whomever embodies the zeitgeist at any given time. Beyonce is the answer to the future of the music industry: Artist collaborating behind a vision that is singular in it's style and themes but open to many interpretations. Bow Down Bitches!

This particular one was a gift, but I bought mine in December. I love it. As an adult who has been married for 10 years and has children, I can relate to every song. Depending on the age of your child (if you have them) I would advise being selective about what songs you play when they are around. Pretty Hurts, No Angel, Jealous, XO, SuperPower, Heaven, and Blue are acceptable for children I think. ***Flawless and Mine are okay if you have the edited version. She only curses in those songs, while all the others are sexually explicit. I have an edited version and there is a part in Haunted where she actually says the F-Word. As far as videos, I would watch them first to see which ones you are comfortable with your kids watching.
Overall, I love the album and the videos. I wish Grown Woman was on the album because I learned the dance in the video. I didn't like the song when it was just in the Pepsi commercial but once I heard the whole song, I started to like it.

As a lover of 90s and 00s R&B, it took two or three run-throughs for me to actually like and appreciate what she's done here. I had some trouble with the style of music, but that apprehension wore down quickly and frankly, I'm SOLD. To those who say the lyrics are "too vulgar," I say this: Beyonce is a grown woman and is entitled to be a sexual being. She can express that in whatever way she deems appropriate. She did it with music, her most comfortable medium. She is not your child's role model, so please get over your disappointment that you can't play this CD for your kids. It's not her job to present an image of whatever you deem "wholesome". That's your job.
This CD is wonderful-- it's empowering to women and expressive of her life as an equal partner in her relationship with a powerful man. Good for her. I love this CD, appreciate the fresh departure from her usual style and am so glad I bought this effort. Go on, Beyonce, with your bad self.

It was kinda old, the case was full of dirt, and the booklet was tightly packed and smashed. It was like a second hand product... And even the visual cd wasn't playing the later songs at the end

If Michael Jackson was alive, he will be proud of Beyoncé
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 2, 2014
There is no other way to describe this fine work. Don't label this as a gimmick, this an artist with a genuine will to leave a mark on the history of music and mankind. I will save you the bore of analysing each track or video, but instead look into the impact this will have for years to come and what it will mean for up-and-coming artists and record labels alike.
We live in a social media era that turned the world into a village where news are shared faster than they had ever been. Beyoncé's project is forcing musicians to be in touch with their fans, the same way Michael Jackson twisted MTV's arm to open doors for Black entertainers. It looks like you can no longer rely on your talents - I am not saying that she lacks it - but you have to market yourself visually, work hard to achieve the status that you crave for.
The album also teaches musicians how to keep control of their work. This could be expensive, but with time, musicians can control how they want to market themselves. The visual album will stay with us for a long time since certain tracks translate better - looks better - when you watch it (GHOST/HAUNTED particularly).
Musically or lyrically, the album breaks no boundary. It only follows a tried-and-tested template of contemporary RNB. This is what she does and this is what should be expected of her. I can't help but beg her to release a mp3 version o GROWN WOMAN. There has never been a video that I have played on repeat more than 10 times EVER! As a African music DJ, this is the perfect bridge and one of the reasons why I love music of African American origin, I can relate to it. We are like long lost family or in the words of Nas & Damian Marley, distant relatives...
TRIVIA: Beyoncé may be the first artist to release simultaneously a CD & DVD for her new album, but this concept has been a trend by Congolese artists since the mid 1990s. When Koffi Olomide released V12, he did a video for each song. Even though many of those videos were of sub-standard quality, he inspired his colleagues to do the same. In 1999, PAPA WEMBA upped the anté when he released MZEE FULA NGENGE. A couple of months later after the official album release, he brought out a VHS - remember those? - with video clips of all the songs in the album.
