I don't have other Aguilera albums... mainly because I always felt I would generally only like a song or two on each... but I am gonna probably start investigating backwards. I know some of her more recent prior albums were way more mellow so I avoided them. I need more than mostly mellow start to finish for me to enjoy an album. I like her mellow tracks on this album, but I love the upbeat ones so much more. Some are even really basic in structure and I still love them. Vanity, is my third favorite on the album and it literally is the same simple synth noise on loop with some changes in the beats and drums but the majority of the variety in the song comes from Aguilera changing up the vocals in the parts over the same synth part. It actually is clever... and the lyrics, to me are pretty damn hilarious... as it is obviously tongue in cheek about loving one's self. The song (and most of the album) is melodic and catchy... two things that almost always make me take notice positively. I am sure Vanity will be a track hated by many, but I love it. My favorite track is the first bonus track, Monday Morning, which has a funky older school Michael Jackson groove/funk vibe to it paired with a more modern synth part... then there is Bobblehead which is at first kind of annoying with a "wah wah wah wah wah" vocal line and simplistic drum line in it but it ends up growing on you (and infecting your mind and making you hum the thing around your house) with repetition... my six year old son LOVES it... makes me play it every time we get in the car. Again, it showcases some good humor. I can appreciate cleverly done humor in a song... I always liked Aguilera (especially when contrasted with Britney) but this album really makes me like her even more. The other thing I really love is she varies and layers her vocal style so much on the album that at times I don't even think it sounds like her (which I think is a badge of honor for her). Her songs Bionic and Woo hoo have her trademark vocals all over them (as do others)... but my second favorite song, Birds of Prey, sounds more like Shirley Manson and Garbage than Christina. There is some really good variety on this album. Aguilera is also quite dirty in the lyrics at times (Woo Hoo) in a way that is just riding the edge of being tolerable without going too far in just being 100% straight up trashy. It is interesting and again, more than anything, it is comical in a laugh along manner (unlike Britney who does it in a laugh AT manner). Anyway, at first there were a few songs I didnt really care for... but listening more and more, I find that I pretty much like every song now and most importantly, it has commandeered my CD player since it arrived... I just keep playing it over all the other CDs I have gotten recently. There is a lot to digest when the deluxe version gives you 23 tracks (even though 3 are intros). You have to like electronic/synth pop or most of this album would not be for you.
Another thing that I am sure others have pointed out (I havent read any other reviews yet) are that you can hear influences of Gaga and Rhianna and Kesha on this album... you can tell Aguilera decided to up the tempo and the loose fun factor and the catchiness like those newer artists have done in the past year.
Finally, this is the type of album that keeps me buying deluxe versions... because my top two favorite songs on the album are in the bonus tracks. Same thing happened with Clarkson's last album... my favorite is one of the bonus tracks. Alanis' last was the same... I loved her bonus tracks. It really makes you wonder how many great songs get discarded for stupid reasons. I really do not want artists thinking "oh, this is too different or doesnt fit" sometimes the differences are what makes it great not only within the album, but compared to other things out there. Be bold... take chances. As long as what you do retains the essence of who you are in it and is good quality... generally anything goes. This one is definitely one where the deluxe version is worth it... Christina took chances and, for me, it really paid off.

Definitely Ahead of its time!
This is such a fun and creative album. I admire christina for taking such a bold risk transitioning from her previous album/sound.

As a big Christina Aguilera fan, I had high standards for this album. As the end came near for her "Back To Basics" tour, Christina told fans that she was going towards and electronic and pop sound for this album. I thought it was going to be a generic pop album; boy was I wrong. Before the official track listing hit the internet, there were many false ones going around. When the official one premiered, I was hooked. And when the album finally came out, my mind was set; this is Christina's best work. The title track, "Bionic", sets the mood for the whole entire album. With an electronic/urban vibe to it, you knew right off the bat this album was going to be awesome. Then it kicks into the first single, "Not Myself Tonight". When I first heard this song as a 15 second preview back in March, I knew it was going to be commercially amazing. Then it goes into the most urban sounding song on the album, "Woohoo" with rapper Nicki Minaj. It's very provocative and basically saying my vagina is the best you will ever see/taste. Plain and simple. But those are the many reasons why I love Xtina. As Woohoo fades out, the electronic/synth driven song, "Elastic Love", picks up the pop and electronic vibe of the album. Sounding so similar to Electronic artist, M.I.A., the song is a pretty decent listen. Not the strongest song though. Then just when you think the album couldn't get much better, it does. The club music kicks in with, "Desnudate", "Glam", & my second favorite off the album, "Prima Donna". All 3 songs are sure to have you dancing and wondering, "Damn Christina can sing almost anything". Tricky Stewart definitely went in on these songs. After, "Prima Donna", the album takes a step down to the R&B side of Christina. With, "Morning Dessert" being just the right intro for my favorite song off Bionic, it definitely shows all forms of Christina. My personal favorite side, her sexual side. Right after "Morning Dessert", Christina is demanding for some loving in the morning with, "Sex For Breakfast". With a very sensual, R&B, provocative side to it, "Sex For Breakfast" definitely showcases Christina's vocal abilities in chest notes and falsettos. Then the album goes into, what Christina says, "the heart of the record". With songs like, "Lift Me Up", All I Need", "I Am," & "You Lost Me", Christina definitely does not hold back on her ballad abilities. Such a beautiful moment in Bionic. After, "You Lost Me", the fun picks right back up again. The loud anthem, "I Hate Boys", the fun, "My Girls" featuring Peaches, and the cocky yet sassy, "Vanity" sure does pack a punch for the albums closing on the standard addition. With the deluxe addition, Xtina picks up the pop with, "Monday Morning", her fun "rapping" skills on, "Bobblehead", her ability to basically sing over anything given to her, "Birds Of Prey", and the personal ballad, which I refer to as Fighter Pt.2, "Stronger Than Ever". And then closes with a beautiful stripped version of, "I Am". Overall, this is definitely Christina's best work since Stripped. It has the fun, the sass, the sex appeal, and the electronic vibe she was very excited to introduce to her fans. Christina has made an epic 2010 album.

Christina goes Gaga!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 1, 2014
Aguilera's voice has been growing on me over the years and I firmly believe she is one of the finest vocalist of the last decade and her generation. I'm even confident that she will go on to do some great work in the future. Millions of X Factor wanabees the world over want a slice of the Aguilera pie but it's not that easy for she has the very voice they love but can never imitate and why, because she is too good a singer. Now with her late 90s pop starlet stuff long behind her, and the R 'N' B bombast of 'Stripped' which brought her international acclaim in the can along with the funk of 2006s soul-driven 'Back To Basics' she dares to go electronic with this 2010 album, and where is that? Well you could say it's into Lady Gaga territory. As a fan of Aguilera, electronic music, and Gaga herself I had to hear this out of sheer curiosity. I popped it in the machine (sounds robot!) and hit the play button. The first thing that struck me was the production which was bass heavy, with some great drum patterns and big fat analog sounding synths. Then the vocals, Aguilera tried a lot of new things here which has further broadened the scope of her great voice and overall the album kept me entertained with techno-dance songs and chill-out nu jazz-style ballads. It's a long album with 23 tracks in all (Deluxe edition, well worth it for the 5 extra tracks) but it definitely contains some of the best vocals she has done. The themes covered in the songs are nothing new, but pop has a built in recycle system anyway so it's the usual love, fashion, sex and money we have come to expect by now. If you like Christina Aguilera you may find this album is good but if you like Christina Aguilera and electronic pop music you may find this album is excellent. I did!
