I have had this vacuum approximately 2 months and have used it about 4 times since I got it. I vacuum an area with mid-to-low height carpet that's roughly 1200 square feet total (just so you have an idea of how hard the machine has had to work). Today, while using it for the 4th time, it abruptly stopped working mid-vacuum. The whole machine just turned off. And guess what? It won't turn back on. I've checked all the filters and hoses and cleaned out the entire machine and it still won't turn on. Just in case it had overheated for some reason, I waited about 2 hours and tried again, and it STILL won't turn on. What a dud. Prior to this, I had the Hoover WindTunnel T-Series Pet Rewind Plus Upright Vacuum, UH70210 and that thing worked like a dream. Sadly, it broke when I dropped it coming down my stairs, and purchased this Bissell based on Amazon reviews and the price difference. Looks like I'll be going back to Hoover!

This vacuum is amazing.

I had mechanical problems with my old vac and wasn't able to vacuum my carpet for a while, once I got to the point of preferring shoes to walk on it, I knew that it was time to spend some money on a new one. When I first was looking for a vacuum I got disheartened by the costs and really didn't want to drop $400+ to get a good quality machine. I searched in stores and online and just felt bummed that the only option I had was to bite the bullet and spend the money. Then I found this vacuum. When I saw this vac and I was a little sceptical of its ability to do the job especially when it was a fraction of the price of these other high-tech vacuums. But, I read the reviews and compared this vac to many others, eventually, I was sold.

I have a dog and a cat who both shed incredible amounts of hair, I also live near a beach so sand gets tracked through the house a lot. My carpet was getting gross. I assembled my brand new vacuum immediately after it arrived and went to town on my carpet. In about 3 passes the compartment that captures the debris was full. I was STUNNED at how much dirt was on my carpet. I laughed and vacuumed with wild abandon, watching as my grey beige carpet turned 3 shades lighter, back to the beige-cream colour it once was.

I am so happy that I didn't have to spend a fortune on a good machine that works like a charm.

As a bonus, it came with a little booklet that shows how to care for it, as well as all the parts that came with it. It also had contact information on where to get replacement parts if need be. That little booklet is very helpful.

All in all, I'm one happy customer and this has been one great purchase.

Thanks Bissell for making such a good quality machine and selling it for a great price :)

I wanted a vacuum that was lightweight to get up and down the stairs. I have a Dyson that I bought refurbished forever ago and it's great but it's very heavy. This vacuum has good suction and cleans fairly well but it has some very annoying qualities. First, the cord is attached very low on the machine so you always have to stoop to grab it and you have to hold on to it the whole time or you'll get tripped up. The cord is also very short you aren't getting a large area from one plug. The attachments are useless. It has a high pile low pile setting which works really well for my loose weave frieze carpet but I can lower it to do rugs. It's light though and it's good enough to get the small area I needed it for. If you want to use this regularly for your whole house be aware that some of the convienence features fall short.

This bad boy...this thing right here is a monster. I just picked it up for my hobby room so I would not have to steal the household one all the time. I did no research and just ordered the first one I saw. This thing makes carpet debris tremble, and that is no exaggeration. for about a 3" radius around the head, you will see debris jumping and bouncing as if trying to escape. I use this to vacuum up dirt, stones, wood chips, etc. I build plastic model cars and dioramas in my hobby room so that is the type of thing this deal with. This thing goes way beyond my expectations, and even outperforms the household main vacuum. It never loses power and gets everything out of the carpet. Super surprising performance here. Stop reading this and order it - I cannot fathom how you would be disappointed with it.

Overall, the vacuum itself works well. My issue is the hose this vacuum cleaner has (one of the main reasons I got this vacuum).

CONS:
1. The tube/hose it came with was bent (see picture). It still works but makes it harder to use
2. The tube/hose is so short, it's nearly impossible to use it for anything unless you want to lift the vacuum cleaner around. I literally have to move the vacuum every few inches since the hose is so short. Yes, it does "stretch" but it also pulls the vacuum cleaner itself if you try to stretch it beyond the original (non-stretched) length.
3. When you use the hose, the vacuum base actually still turns... which makes it a bit dusty if you put in on carpet and since the base still spins, it pushes the little debris up into the air through the opening (where you took the hose out of).
4. The power cord attaches near the base of the vacuum so it can be annoying since you have to constantly hold the cord or it will be easy to get it caught under your vacuum. I try to make a loop towards the handle area to prevent this issue. Design flaw, in my opinion

PROS:
1. Works and cleans pretty decently, I was surprised by how well it worked (only the vacuum and not the hose part)
2. The removal of the collection bin is simple and hassle free. Makes cleaning a bit easier.

We bought the Bissell CleanView Upright cleaner as a replacement for a Dyson DC02 because for $69.99 even if it didn't turn out to be a great vacuum cleaner at least we wouldn't have spent too much finding out. It turns out the reviews are accurate - it's actually a remarkably capable vacuum cleaner. Subjectively it's suction seems to be as good as that of the Dyson, and it even has some advantages over it. It does a better job close to the base boards, and around the legs of furniture. It's easier to clean than the Dyson with easily accessible filters. The attachments are good, and the self powered stair brush is a remarkably useful tool. The Dyson DC02 has a longer reach because of the tube that slides down into the hose at the back of the vacuum, but the fact that the Bissell doesn't have this isn't a significant drawback. My one complaint is that there is a small hook on the back of the handle for the power cord, which actually attaches at the base of the vacuum. While in theory this is supposed to hold the cord up and out of the way of your feet, in practice it's completely useless. The best solution seems to be to thread the power cable through a rubber band placed around the handle. This is an annoying design flaw, but then when you've paid less that $70 dollars for a machine that's as capable as a Dyson you learn to overlook some things ;)

Pros:
Lightweight
Maneuverable
Cleans well close to furniture legs and baseboards
Good selection of attachments
Very useful self powered stair tool
Easy to clean with accessible filters
It's price

Cons:
Short reach when the hose is detached to use attachments
Power cord hook on the back of the handle - absolutely useless and a really dumb design

This is what a vacuum cleaner is supposed to do and this one does it very well.

I got mine based on the high reviews and low price and I wasn't disappointed. I received my package tonight and had it unpacked and assembled it in less than 10 minutes. All of the attachments mounted nicely on the vacuum, which is a definite plus for me. Then it was vacuuming time! My bedroom rug (5x8) had suffered for about a month since the brushes on my old vacuum died. A few minutes later, I was amazed at how much stuff there was in the canister (see figure 1). Where did all that stuff come from? How did this vacuum cleaner get it out of my rug? I decided to try it on my other rug, which is about a year old and didn't look at all dirty. Much to my alarm, the canister came away almost full and the rug now looks amazing. A lot of stuff in the canister is very fine dust that my old vacuum probably never had the strength to get.

Very pleased with this purchase, and remember, if your vacuum cleaner doesn't suck, it's time to get a new one!

I waited to write a review on this product until having a bit of time to use it. It was purchased to replace a Hoover Pro Pet vacuum that I had for several years. I am comparing the pros and cons to that vacuum in this review. I looked for a product to accommodate cleanup for 2 dogs, a cat, and dust generated from the fireplace.
PROS- Nice compact design, comes with several tools, easy to empty, lightweight for when you need to carry up and down stairs, exceptional suction, comes with pet/furniture extension that works very well, easy cleanup
CONS- parts feel a little flimsy, short hose, additional pieces fall off during use, dust cup can get clogged requiring manual cleaning, awkward placement of the on/off button

I really like how well the suction works and was amazed at how well it cleaned up (mind you our last vacuum lost suction due to age and cracking for comparison). I'm concerned about the durability of the dust cup and associated parts. It does not feel as durable as I hoped- definitely thinner than our past Hoover. I suspect over time the dust cup may crack- but so far so good and as long as it isn't handled too rough. The extra parts are a nice bonus to have but they frequently fall off so they don't have the most secure spots to sit in. Pretty much every time I use it there is another accessory falling off. I also find that the on/off switch is in an awkward spot- having to bend over and access it on the lower left side- somewhat hidden by the large dustcup. Hard to get used to.
The added pet/furniture tool has great suction and works well when cleaning our carpeted stairs. Unfortunately the hose is a little too short in comparison to the last vacuum we had. It could use an extra 6" in length. I find that you can only extend a couple feet before the hose starts tugging at the vacuum. I also learned the hard way that if the vacuum is on a carpeted floor while using the hose and it tilts, the rollers dig into the carpet and can ruin spots on the carpet. The brushes were not on the lowest setting but I am hoping if I adjust them to a higher level this will be less of an issue. I also appreciate the lighweight design for carrying up and down stairs. The extension cord also has a decent length.
The dust cup issues partly stem from having so much dust and pet hair to suck up- the way the dust cup is made causes some of the hair ro be trapped in the filter area. While it is easy to pull apart the crevice it gets caught in requires a bit of tapping which has me worried it will eventualy crack due to it's less durable construction. It does not seem to affect the suction as far as I can tell so at least it has that going for it.
At best I believe this vacuum would be great for lighter cleaning in a home with few to no pets and ideal for apartment living versus a full house. Otherwise it may serve as a good interim vacuum if you plan to buy something more expensive. It's priced pretty well so you get what you pay for (lesson learned) but we were not prepared to spend hundreds of dollars for top of the line product. I find that buying vacuums designated as pet vacuums give the best results with suction- meaning you don't have to break the bank to get similar needs met.
I would recommend the product overall. However, if I had the option to test this first before buying, I would have opted for something in a higher price range that felt a little more durable.

I couldn't be more pleased with this purchase. I was skeptical because it's price point is lower than Shark's vacuums, which I used to think were really good. This is on a whole 'nother level. I have 3 cats and 2 shiba inu. For anyone who doesn't know about shibas, half the time they don't shed at all. The other half of the time it's like there's a constant FURnado in the house. I have brushed off furbunnies larger than the dog itself - NOT AN EXAGGERATION. I got this thing right after shedding season and IT SUCKED UP EVERYTHING. I wish I took pictures of the difference. I couldn't remember the last time the carpet looked this good. CAT PEOPLE: it can suck up litter from carpet!!! This is also ridiculously easy to empty and clean. The only downside is that the tube is very elastic so it won't stretch very far when using the hand tools - this is probably just because it's so new - DON'T MATTER BECAUSE THIS VACUUM IS SO AWESOME.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I bought this sweeper and with in 2 months of having it the plastic piece that the hose slips into broke off. I called their customer service and the only solutions they had for me was to cut the cord of my machine and send a picture of it to get the process of a new sweeper sent started. That means that I would be WITHOUT a sweeper for 2-4 weeks. That means no sweeping for 2-4 weeks over a simple plastic piece fix. The other option I had was to take it into a service center that is only open from 9-5:30. In that solution my husband or I would have had to take off work to fix a product that is BRAND NEW. They also through email suggested that I used the product incorrectly and that is why the plastic broke. I did NOT. Their product should last WAY longer than 2 months! Very disappointed and will be going with another vacuum brand in the future!
