The on/off switch is a simple red button on the tip of the upward curved handle. It's easy to turn on and doesn't get in the way. I appreciate that I only have to hold this vacuum instead of squeezing some trigger mechanism to keep it on.
The motor is on the loud side, giving you the impression that it's very powerful, however the suction isn't as strong as another significantly more expensive hand-held vacuum (different brand) I've bought in the past. Although my other hand vac has stronger suction, the thing is always running out of power when I need it most. I like having continual power with this Bissell, so even if I may have to go over crumbs more than once, the job will get done quickly.
The filter is good, but you must take care that you don't wash or get the folded part wet (as explained in the directions). Ideally, I would have liked to see that component be entirely washable. Instead, you can hit it against the wastebasket to knock off the accumulated dirt (also described in directions).
The flexible rubber contour attachment is by far my favorite-it elevates this machine to the "exceptional" category, in my book. The attachment enables this Bissell to actually do something that the pricier vacuums I've purchased (both big and small) can't handle...It revitalizes the worn areas of my carpet. WoW! This a noticeable improvement.Read more ›
It's easy to empty the dirt from inside. Just push the button and off it comes. However I'd advise doing that outside as depending on what you have inside, you may end up getting the house dirty again!
What I like about this is it's small enough to put just about anywhere. And As most of us do, we snack in the room watching TV. Crumbs get all over. This is small enough to pull out and do a quick vacuum job on the chair, etc.
Keep in mind this is NOT what you would want to vacuum the floors of your house. It's for small jobs, the auto, etc.
Also it comes with a long electric cord. And a wrap for the cord when not in use.
Bissell has a really nice product here.
Our primary backseat passenger is our Aussie Terrier, Fred. He must be a hairy little guy because even using a pet seat mat, we're still getting a fair amount of pet fur on the backs of the seats and the inside doors. The Bissell picked it right up.
We're also gardeners who bring home far too many plants from local nursery centers, and even using boxes, we have dirt and plant residue on the back seat and trunk floors. Again, the Bissell cleans it all with no trouble.
The four amps of power creates strong suction and the compact shape makes for easy handling. Add to that an eighteen foot power cord and three easy-to-add attachments, and I may have a chance in my quest for a pet fur free house.
The crevice tool works well in the car as well as on stairs and around the baseboards where the kitty fur flies.
And its light weight and unlimited power supply make it possible for me to clean for as long as I want. No stopping to recharge the battery.
With two cats and a dog, I've used the rechargeable battery type hand vacs in the past, and it always comes down to a choice - mobility or power. The Bissell provides as much suction power as I need and almost enough mobility.
The HEPA filter is a bonus and, best of all, is easy to access and clean.
I like the Bissell Auto-Mate, and I like our guys, so now I can let Fred continue to ride in the backseat and occasionally invite a human along.
Having purchased both of those devices probably fifteen years ago, I was convinced there must be something that did a much better job now. When I saw the BISSELL Auto-Mate Hand Held Vacuum, 35V4 model, I was intrigued. Although it didn't fit my criteria for a replacement entirely, it looked like it would do the trick. The two things it didn't have? One, it isn't cordless and rechargeable. Two, it doesn't have a wall mount to hang it someplace convenient yet out of the way.
Still, the Bissell looked good, so I ordered it. I actually was surprised at its size - I had expected it to be larger, but was pleased to see it was not. I'd say it is about the size of my 6-quart Crockpot, maybe. The weight and size of it are very easy to handle without tiring yourself out.
Then I sat down with the manual and the attachments to see what went where and what functions each attachment is intended for. There are two main nozzles - the flexible rubber contour nozzle and the hose attachment nozzle.
The hose attachment nozzle should be snapped on when you want to use the hose and either the wide mouth tool or the crevice tool. These attachments are both fairly standard to most people who have used a vacuuming device. The wide mouth tool, however, has one slight difference - two strips of material that help pick up lint, etc. when vacuuming with it. You have probably seen a similar red fabric used on lint brushes, etc.Read more ›
