I want to share a carpet cleaning tip I got from a professional carpet cleaner: When cleaning the whole carpet, instead of adding the cleaning solution to the tank, mix it in a sprayer (one of the soaking kind like a bug sprayer or deck refinisher) and spray the solution on the carpet 30 min before you run the carpet cleaner. Then add just plain hot water to the carpet cleaner. This does a better job and you don't need to worry about the soap clogging the lines.
This was a good choice model for us. Oh, and it runs quieter than my regular vacuum.
My one complaint is that the removable tank has a latch to hold the top on and the piece of plastic the latch grabbed on to broke on me one day, even though I was never anything but gentle with the machine. I was able to buy a replacement part for $20 from Bissell, but was still disappointed.
Yet, that was not enough to keep me from buying my own so I can keep up on general carpet maintenance in our own home. Upon getting my machine, it seems as though the tank on mine is made of a different, more reliable plastic. So hopefully that means in the more than 2 years in age between mine and my sister's DeepClean Essential carpet cleaners Bissell identified and remedied the problem. If mine suffers the same issue, I'll be sure to edit this review to add that.
Otherwise, I think this is a good quality cleaner for the price. Cleans the floors, the attachments have come in handy. So aside from that one little hiccup, I'd recommend this.
The water tank is easy to fill. The round lid over the water tank was a bit difficult to get off the first time but after that, it snaps securely but also unlatches pretty easily. You simply fill the interior bladder with to water, leaving a little room for the cleaning solution. The box includes the measuring cup for the cleaning solution, and you just add that in on top, close the round lid, then place the plastic lid back on top and latch it. Set the tank back in the base of the washer and you're good to go. As this works, the bladder decompresses as it empties and the dirty water is flushed back into the water tank around the outside of the bladder.
My only complaint with this system is its very difficult to tell when you're out of clean water. I suspect over time I'll learn to eyeball it based on how high the dirty water is, but for the first five uses I've done, it's frustrating to not really know.
My carpets are not too thick, and this washer worked great on them. My main issue was dog urine accidents, and though this did help some, it didn't work miracles. I used the 2x concentrated pet stain cleaning solution, but might try different cleaning solutions to see if I get a different result. And note, at least when I purchased this washer, the box included an 8 ounce bottle of a Febreeze solution which I plan to use soon after another treatment or two over the main urine saturated area of carpet.
Within a few hours, my carpets were mostly dry, and I used this at night before bed and woke up to dry, cleaner carpets. The heatwave technology does make a difference in helping to dry the carpets faster - I did a test patch without it, and that area was noticeably wetter after a few hours than the main portions I did.
The only other downside to this is it's a bit clunky when trying to use it - it's hard to turn it, and when not turned on, it's a bit difficult to maneuver it around. I do wish moving it around was a little easier but for an otherwise pretty compact, and well working machine, this is a minor thing to just deal with.
All in all, this is a great machine, and very ideal for carpets but can easily be used in a larger house. The tools stay securely in place while using the main part of the machine, and also both work easily and efficiently. I've used the power brush tool a few times to spot clean fresher urine accidents from my dog and can see a difference in that. The only downside to that is trying to estimate a smaller amount of water and cleaning solution when you know you won't need the entire tank filled.
