BISSELL PowerEdge Pet Hard Floor Vacuum, 81L2T
The V-shape of the PowerEdge Pet Stick Vacuum’s base helps you capture both large debris and fine particles without the use of a brush roll. The vacuum’s V-shaped wipers force all of the large debris on your hard floor into the center suction path, while the fine particles are suctioned along the arms. And since the wipers are made of hair-attracting rubber material, they help collect more pet hair than suction alone. Also, the shape of the base allows for easy cleaning along furniture legs, along baseboards and in tight places

I put this together and was disappointed that there was no suction at all.
Took it apart, got rid of the foam covering around the filter (see pictures), put it back together, and SUCTION!!
This vac has a ridiculously large amount of suction for it's size. The suction power, together with the odd looking but highly effective v-shape front edge, pulls the hair and dirt into the vac rather than pushing it around. It's hard to overstate the "Wow!" factor involved as it cleans right up to the baseboards, under the cupboard edges, pulls hair from corners and around chair legs. (I'd been using the edging tool on my large upright vac to do the same things--heavy, took more time, and didn't clean as well!) All that in a light-weight vac that can be picked up one handed without a thought. I've been zipping this around at home on our vinyl and laminate floors while carrying my infant daughter in her baby sling. Emptying the vac is simple and doesn't make a mess. Yet another great feature is the absence of bristles. Everyone who deals with pet hair quickly learns that bristles are just spots for the hair to collect and drag around the house rather than going into the vac. Someone at Bissell was doing their homework.
The only downside to this vac is the noise. It is loud. Very loud. But, given the suction power all that noise produces, I'm more than willing to overlook it!
The Bissell design team deserves a huge round of applause from pet owners!
It's not quite that simple. I also had an early loss of suction. I found an almond shell lodged in the suction path in the lower part of the machine and removed it, thinking all was well, and it was for one or two cleaning sessions. Then it lost suction again. There was no easily accessible blockage. The filters were clean. I was puzzled.
It turns out there are two important things to realize about this vac. The first is that the floor completes the suction path. It absolutely will not work on carpet or a rough floor, the entire suction head has to contact the floor or you will just be vacuuming up air. The second thing is that the entire suction path is long and not easily accessible. After taking it pretty much entirely apart, I realized that the suction path goes all the way up the black plastic area where the handle attaches and empties into the debris cup through a small hole in the white plastic adjacent to where the red filter attaches. I had an almond shell lodged somewhere in there near the top, blocking the path. I had to bang it around a bit to clear it, but now it vacuums like a champ again. No large debris, no rough floors, it performs quite well.
And then it broke. I have taken good care of this thing. Wrap it up and store it after every single use. I took it out yesterday to vacuum and the bottom snapped off. Not in a way that I could hope to put back together. Just snapped. I have owned this thing for 10 months. For the price, I would hope it would have lasted longer. I am very disappointed in the poor quality construction.
We also came to our house with a dog and THREE cats between us, and we've found this vacuum does an excellent job getting up pet hair off the hard wood floors.
I only wish there was a larger one that would cover more surface area at a given time (it is on the small-side). On the other hand, it's small size makes it very handy at getting up stuff in nooks & crannies. If you have a lot of hard floors (as we do), it may take a bit more time to vacuum the whole area, but not much more - since you really only have to vacuum over a section once to pretty much get everything up. The extension cord could be longer as other reviewers have pointed out, but that's easy enough to deal with (an extension cord is always an option, as is plugging it in elsewhere as it's so lightweight and easy to move about).
I read some negative reviews saying this PowerEdge didn't work - I can only assume those customers got a lemon and hopefully they received a replacement. For me, this thing worked perfectly out of the box.
I've only had mine for a week, but we have used this thing a zillion times in that week and it's worked well every time. I love this thing. Since it's fairly cheap, I'm toying with the idea of getting a second one for downstairs, but again: since it's so lightweight, it's really a breeze to take it up/down stairs and I really shouldn't be so lazy.
