Good robotic vacuum, needs two improvements

I have been using the Bissell EV675 for about a week now and so far it is doing a pretty good job. My wife and I hsve had the Roomba 652 for a few years now and while they both do a good job, there are some major advantages and disadvantages between them. First, the Bissell is MUCH quieter than the Roomba. When my cats hear the Romba start, they wake up and run away. When the Bissell is running, the cats will sleep right through it. The remote on the Bissell is very useful. You can use it to control the movement of the vacuum. So if it misses something or you want to hit the same spot again, you can use the remote to move the vacuum back to that spot. The Roomba cannot do that and I would have to keep lifting up the vacuum up and repositioning it. The docking feature works much better on the Bissell then the Roomba. If I lift and move the Roomba snd hit the dock button, it seems to just wander around until it hits the dock. Sometimes, it never finds it. The Bissell, on the other hand, seems to know where the dock is even if I pick it up and move it, even to another room. The other major advantage is the battery life. The battery lasts 3 times longer then the Roomba.

The Roomba does have 2 major advantages over the Bissell. First, the Roomba has no problem transitioning from hardwood floors to an area rug (unless the area rug has a very high pile). The Bissell gets stuck and can't seem to transition over, even on the thinest of rugs. The reason it can't make the transition form hardwood to rugs is the brush arms. They are pointed down which get stuck under rugs, stopping it from getting over the rug. The other disadvantage is that the brush arms don't seem to be long enough and if you watch it closely, it doesn't hit the edges very well.

Overall I am very happy with the Bissell EV675. I was not aware that Bissell made a robotic vacuum and if anyone is looking for s robotic vacuum, I would recommend this product. While it is not perfect, it comes VERY close.

We purchased the Bissell EV675 on a whim, because our hard floors seem to be increasingly dusty/dirty, even with daily sweeping. I was extremely skeptical about the cleaning performance of a robot (seemed gimmicky to me), but I have to give it to the little guy, he’s exceeded my expectations! We have two small kids and meal time = mess time, so I’m routinely running the robot after dinner to clean the floor while I’m picking up the kitchen. I’m blown away by the difference it’s made, and I LOVE the remote, which is very helpful if you want to guide or direct the robot to clean a certain area or mess. It does a fantastic job picking up cheerios and crackers left behind by the kids, and I’m always surprised at the amount of dust in the dirt bin. It’s super easy to program and we have ours run at 10am every day when the house is empty. The robot always seems to find its way back to the dock, so it’s ready to clean again after dinner! This thing even cleans under our couch, and is extremely quiet, so it’s not obnoxious to run while we’re home.

Overall, I’m very satisfied with the EV675 and happy to get the cleaning performance I except from a Bissell product!

This is a review for the BISSELL EV675 Robotic Vacuum Cleaner, 2503, Black.

The setup is very straight-forward and the vacuum comes preassembled. You should read the short manual that is included, because it’s really helpful for things like setting up the date/time and enabling and disabling the schedule. It also tells you what the light patterns and colors mean on the top power button. The manual also translates the beeps.

As far as features:

It mainly uses bump guided cleaning so your carpet will be cleaned in zig-zag patterns. A few times when it tried to return to its base it performed 360 turns which I assume is it scanning the area for an open path. It has no ability to store the map of the room which makes me wonder how it knows it’s truly done cleaning every part of the room. A few times I witnessed it cleaning the exact same area 4 or 5 times. I suspect that it simply zig-zags all over the room then when the battery is low, it returns to the base to charge and calls the room clean. If you need to, you can use the remote to assist in it finding the base station—which I needed to do twice.

It does have cliff sensors so it won’t fall down stairs. It has rotating side brushes that do a good job sweeping debris from wall edges and from corners.

It does not have a built-in memory for floor maps but it does store start times for a schedule.

Docking/Charging station - it usually can get back to the charging station but often it gets lost in the room and can’t make it back; now granted we have a very large living room so it might be that it has an unpublished floor size limit.

The dust bin is small and if you haven’t put your Bissell on a schedule you’ll need to empty it frequently. There is no built-in Wi-Fi. There is no smart app. There are no no-go lines.

As far as performance - It does a good job at cleaning; my carpet was pretty clean in the areas covered by the vacuum. I would say thought that this vacuum would be more effective in a smaller room, something closer to 20 x 20.

One of its successes is how quiet it is. You can barely hear it as it runs. In fact, this is the quietest robot vacuum I’ve used.

As far as support: I did have two issues with the vacuum. Once it stopped in the middle of the room and it did not move for 15min. I ended up having to cancel the clean and put it back on the dock manually. A couple other times it couldn’t make its way back to the dock. Though, the last may be related to how big our room is 100’ x 50’ with both dining-room and living-room furniture in it.

I called Bissell support, they were very kind and courteous and quick to conclude that it needed to be replaced. This is Bissell’s first foray into robot vacuums so I wasn’t surprised that they concluded they needed it back and would send me a replacement. I have no doubt that Bissell engineers will test it thoroughly to see if it’s a component failure.

In conclusion, despite my technical issues, this vacuum does what you expect it to; it cleans really well. I don’t like it’s lack of room mapping and the fact that it doesn’t have in-home wi-fi support and no smart phone app to control it.

Recommended with the reservations expressed above.

I've gone through 4 types of vacuums for my 2 german shepherds that shed constantly, I knew buying a small remote vacuum wouldn't be all that ends all, but it is definitely needed throughout the week. This one has been great so far. I LOVE HOW EASY IT IS TO DISASEMBLE THE MOVING PARTS so that I can take out the jammed hair that gets inevitably stuck. I do wish that the roller was bigger and those small metal rods weren't there. And I've seen that some others have a larger trays from the top. Overall very pleased!

Two years ago I bought an Ecovacs robot vacuum, I have two fury dogs who shed all year long. I was very surprised to see how much my old vacuum picked up from my floors, it helped me tons. However, after a year and so later the battery started to die (I think it is the battery cause it wont run for more that 10min before dying). So, I decided to get a new one, I was going to go for another Ecovacs, but wasn't thrilled with the ideo of having to buy a new machine every year, seriously that is so much waste going to landfill that is not even just about the price. I looked for a new machine that would offer a longer warranty and that is why I bought the Bissell EV675. At first it looked very similar to my old vacuum, but after the first couple of times using I was very disappointed when I saw it kept leaving my dogs'fur behind. It is advertised as a cleaner for pet hair and it doesn't pick it up. Before it came I was setting my Ecovacs 3 or 4 times (better than nothing as annoying as it got) and it would still manage to fill the debris container in that short period of time, the Bissell runs for the full 100 minutes just to finish half full, and trust me, this is not because my floors are clean... I am returning it considering I ended up spending more than on my last one plus the insurance plan (to actually get the 3 year warranty).

Does well with pet hair however I find the hair gets caught in the brush often. However we have a lot of long dog hair all over. The first couple times it runs you have to empty it out multiple times but once it catches up it seems to not need emptying as much. Can't miss a day in our house. I do find that sometimes it just dies or quits at random places. It's a fun time trying to find it when I get home as it always stops in a different place.
