Just got a new car and the first thing I did was buy the bumper bully to protect my rear bumper against terrible NYC parallel parkers! I have a BMW X1 and the Q&A’s on the site said to get the BLACK version since the other versions apparently had issues closing the automatic trunk gate due to the reinforced straps.
This thing is super easy to install. The Velcro straps easily cling to the trunk carpeting and can be readjusted as many times as necessary. I positioned the bumper guard off-center and to the left since it wasn’t wide enough to protect the entire rear bumper and any portion of the sides (my only gripe/complaint). And since I don’t need the sidewalk-facing corner to be protected, I figured it’d be best to offset it to the left to protect the corner against the negligent driver pulling out of the spot behind me and scraping the left corner while doing so.
After installation, it didn’t look like the automatic trunk had any issues closing. Based on the construction of the straps, the thicker part of the straps (with rubber + foam backing) ended up being wedged under the rear gate instead of the thinner, rubber-less portion. I would have preferred the thinner portion to be wedged under the gate to avoid any damage to my trunk gate but that would end up having the bumper guard hang too low relative to the portion of the bumper that actually needed protecting. Hopefully having the thicker strap+rubber part wedged under the gate won’t cause any damage to my car’s rear gate’s rubber lining.
Will update this review if any damage results, but so far so good.
