An ideal tool for pruning tree branches up to 4 inches in diameter, cutting branches into manageable pieces, and cutting of fallen branches after storms, the Black & Decker LLP120B cordless alligator lopper provides powerful, fast cutting and its innovative clamping jaws grab and cut in one easy motion. It also includes a heavy duty cutting bar and chain to deliver fast cutting of thick branches and logs.
Note: This Black & Decker cordless tool does not come with a 20-volt MAX lithium-ion battery. It's a good choice if you already have other batteries purchased with other tools from Black & Decker's 20-volt MAX Lithium lineup. If you need a battery, this sweeper comes in a package that includes a battery and charger, or you can purchase a LBXR20 battery separately.
It's powered by a 20-volt MAX lithium-ion battery (available separately) that offers a longer lifespan and retains its charge 5x longer than similar 18-volt NiCad batteries--and you won't be limited by an extension cord. You'll get up to 150 cuts of 1-1/2-inch branches per charge. The battery is also designed with 50 percent less battery weight, and the unit weighs a total of 6.8 pounds with battery installed.
Offering the ultimate in controlled cutting, the alligator lopper's rugged metal guards cover the jaws to protect you from the cutting chain and immediately snap back over the blades once the cut is complete. And the jaws won't skip around like chainsaws when starting to cut. The alligator lopper cuts side-to-side instead of from top-to-bottom as with traditional chainsaws--preventing burying the cutting chain in the dirt as the chain cuts though, which can quickly dull a regular chainsaw.

1-cannot check oil level by sight or dipstick... squirt blind and when your garage floor is wet, pray some went in the saw
2- automatic tensioning system not effective... and no way to override with typical adjustment screw. Too much sag- partially caused by bar splitting, but prior as well. See pic
3-after light, normal use (no ramming, drops etc), tip of the chain bar started to split, so no more track.... chain is now INSIDE the bar a good ½" (see pic). And a replacement bar... Amazon, Walmart, anywhere else... is $39 or $40... literally HALF THE PRICE OF THE ENTIRE CHAINSAW?
Infrequent use, so too late to return. I can't believe I'm about to drop an $80 chainsaw in the trash bin. Extremely disappointed. Um, obviously.

*EDIT* I see people complaining about chain adjustment coming loose and only lasting a year. If you know how to use a tool it will last much longer. Let the chain do the cutting and don't squeeze hard, you don't need to. If the saw is jamming in the wood you cutting your doing it wrong and you wil burn the tool out and jar the chain tension each time. Learn how to bottom/then top cut larger branches and work the saw that way. A little pressure the right way sets up bigger cuts for proper cuts. Be tool savvy and your tools will last long.
So far, I’ve only had a chance to test it out for about 30 mins, but at this point I LOVE it. I am easily able to clear my overgrown plum trees and hack down carragana bushes and poplar saplings. Not having to pull start is FANTASTIC. The battery is small and not heavy, and thus far, I run out of energy before the battery does.
One note...the best price I could find was on Amazon, purchasing the bare tool, plus charger. They offer the two pack batteries, but for some reason, they would not sell them to me. A “solution” sprung up on the page, telling me that I needed to order larger quantity. Instead, I ordered them from Home Depot... cost more, but was able to buy just the two that I wanted.
Don’t know how long the item may last, but if I get all the way through my 30 feet of tangled, barbed, overgrown plums, I’ll consider it worth the money and will not hesitate to buy another one for my next project.
I could not find one of these for sale in any store hereabouts, and no one I’ve talked to has ever heard of it. If people knew these things would be flying off the shelves ( and probably coming down in price).
I have two of these. The first one broke after just a year. Something in the gearbox gave way.
The second one, in nearly a year now suddenly stops frequently and smells like burned plastic. It was always cleaned and oiled after usage and the chain runs freely.
Update: March 2020
My second saw just gave up. The is the second time, first time the motor brush holder was damaged beyond repair, but fortunately the motor of the first saw came in handy.
It is unfortunate these things break down so easily as the idea is great.
