First and foremost - I am guessing that some of the positive reviews are not for this model, from "robots", people who have received this item "free" or people who literally use this vacuum for less than 1 minute of work each time. It is virtually impossible to get any accurate, detailed specs on this unit anywhere including the manufacturer's website - there are no specs at all on either the capacity of the battery, the run time under full load or actual suction power of this unit. It is beyond bizarre and the only clue offered is the AW rating of 16 which is generally meaningless if not in context with battery capacity and run-time. I had to search high and low to come up with some comparisons and then shockingly a mid-range, handheld Dyson has an AW of 100 while this machine has an AW of 16. A mid-range, handheld Dyson runs on full load for 20 minutes at 100 AW, this machine runs for less than 2 minutes at 16 AW (my own approximation as best as I can make it out after a 24hr charge cycle) and that's if you're very thrifty with turning it on and off throughout your work. Another point of reference, a Hoover Air 20V goes 25 minutes at full load and 50 minutes with extended battery drawing approx. 20v. Also, there is no pre-filter in this unit, and the filter inside is a less than well made, thin and easily wearable, cloth/blended materials filter which means it will start falling apart quickly and you will quickly need extra filters especially if you're picking up pet hair that has a tendency to get tangled. This B&D is a "busted dustbuster" - a high discharge device (draws 10.8 v) with a low capacity battery (2 cell of unknown capacity) which equals very, very short usage - and - a "drip" charger that makes for an extremely long charging time. It's a piece of junk with no light indicator (or any indicator) as to whether it is charging and when it has completed. I am very frustrated for having purchased and then returned it, and I am equally disappointed that this manufacturer has gone to such low standards on what use to be a fairly reliable brand.

A year ago when I first received this I would've given it a stellar review. Worked great for about 6 months, then the battery suddenly stopped holding charge for more than 1-2 minutes at a time. I've followed all instructions as far as properly charging and it doesn't make a difference. After the 6 months performance plummeted. Despite keeping up on maintenance (regular filter changes, cleaning product, charging according to manufacturer's instfuctions), the suction power dropped to half of what it was originally, would hardly even puck up clumps of loose pet hair and ligbt debris, crumbs, etc. At this point, 13 months after my purchase I'm ready to throw it in the trash and search for a new brand entirely. This week it decided to stop running after 10 seconds or less after switching power on (see video posted by another reviewer, same exact issue). Way too many poor reviews on recent B&D handheld, cordless vacs. I'm so disappointed as I did extensive research in the beginning and found this model to be rated better than many others of this brand. It proved to be a flop, and a complete waste of money. WILL NOT RECOMMEND this brand or model to friends or family anymore, and know several otbers personally who have run into same problems with this exact model. I'm not sure where all the positive reviews are coming from, but I hope these folks provide an honest update in 6-8 months time.

Received this product November 25th. Used infrequently for small pickup jobs in the kitchen. By December 24th it is unusable. The catch mechanism that fastens the air container to the motor and handle broke (small cheap plastic part) broke and it won't snap back into position to be used. I did find it on sale but even then cost is $1/day. Not sure if I am going to repeat this mistake,

Update, after having had it for a few months .. it's pitiful, I was trying to vacuum off some cobwebs earlier today, and it couldn't handle even that - though it sure pushes out a lot of air at the other end. Perhaps it's the nozzle design, don't know - but it's just not worth the money. Bad buy, definitely do not recommend.

It seems a bit feeble, i.e., it makes plenty of noise and blows out air the back energetically, I wish it was stronger sucking up small things from the floor (mostly wood floors). Perhaps it's the angle of the nozzle, whatever it is, it's not working very well.

I'd not buy or recommend this - it'll do for now.

Seems to do the job well; suggest "conditioning" battery prior to initially using unit by totally discharging battery & recharging totally several times. This should insure max. battery life w/o setting artifical low - full chg. at less than actual "full" chg point.

I had pretty low expectations on getting a hand vac, haven't ever really liked a budget one and always felt better off buying a full size vacuum vs. an expensive hand held...but after the overnight initial charge, this thing had a lot more suction that I was expecting and I will definitely be relying on it for quick vacuums of furniture and ceiling fans! Very light weight, as loud as you'd expect it to be, and the nozzle extends long enough to reach pretty much anywhere I can think to use it. If you need a solid 20-25 minutes of light duty vacuuming done, this thing is perfect. Lasts a bit longer than that but with Li-Ion I never like to let the batteries run fully dead...

Faulty do not buy

Edit: I contacted black Decker and received a new one after getting a faulty product. The second one after the second charge no longer functions for more than 10 seconds just like the first. DO NOT BUY.

This is a great vacuum, it cleans up hardwood floors quite well, carpet not super great but it manages bigger things. Very handy around the apartment and the suction is as strong during a new charge as it is when the battery is running low/out.

One complaint is that after 30 days the vacuum started turning itself off after 4-5 seconds of turning on. It no longer functions as it should and I have no idea what it is. The filter was changed. The vacuum is not overheating. I let it rest for a while. After 4 days it resumed working, but customer service is non responsive and it just stopped working beyond the Amazon working date.

I wouldn't recommend this product.

I really loved this hand vacuum. I did a lot of research to try to find one with good battery life, knowing that can sometimes be a problem. And within about a year and a half, the battery on this just gave out. It now turns on for maybe 10 seconds maximum and turns back off. I am so disappointed. Please don't make the mistake of buying this and ending up with another piece of trash to send to the landfill.
