If you don't have a kitchen with appliances in your apartment or dorm room--and if you don't already have a toaster oven--this one might work for you. But don't expect it to take the place of what you already have. You will be supremely disappointed.
It does have a few things going for it: It is good-looking, it is not huge (considering that it can handle a 12" pizza), and it is lightweight. Now, the fact that it is lightweight does mean that it is not insulated well and the thin-walled stainless steel can be indented with the pressure from a finger, not a hand--a finger, as in one finger. I know this because on the oven I received there is a bowed-out place and I tried to push it back into the correct position.....
I was intrigued by the claim that AIR FRYING could be done in this oven. So my curiosity got the better of me and I ordered this appliance. What a joke! The drip pan is not as large as the air fryer "basket". And it is able to shift around and is not easy to center under the basket. And these pieces--unlike a true air fryer--are not non-stick. In a real air fryer there is a solid wall all the way around the basket and a solid bottom. Air fryers, even with their minimal use of oil, are messy. There is nothing in this toaster oven to keep a mess in check--just the too-small drip pan. And, the basket needs to slide under a down-hook-type tab that holds it in place, and it is impossible to remove/insert the basket together with the drip pan, because the basket needs to be tipped and angled to get it under that tab. To say it is a poor design is a huge understatement.
And here is something that amazed me and still has me shaking my head: Don't pay any attention to the pictures that show the position of the air fryer basket. They are incorrect. The basket should go on the middle or lower rack. The pictures (even in the leaflet that comes in the box), show the fryer basket up in the position that should only be used for broiling. (Says that imprinted right on the inside wall of the appliance.)
To be clear about this air fryer thing: You will be able to cook a thin, single layer of fries or potato wedges, or even small whole potatoes for one or two people, without making too big a mess. You will not be wanting to air fry chicken wings or pork ribs. You will not want to air fry anything with a sauce or a coating, because you will realize that clean up will be impractical. And, air frying--in general--in this appliance is s-s-l-l-o-o-w-w-w going.
TOASTING should be done on the middle rack, so says the instructions. I found my bread toasted only on top. I had to flip it to toast the bottom. (Utter fail!) I will not be trying to bake a pizza in this thing.....
BROILING can only be done at the very top position, but you are supposed to leave at least 1 1/2" between the food and heating element. That is hard to do, because there is not that much space to work with above that top rack. And broiling takes ten minutes to preheat.
Personally, I think this is a ridiculous and useless appliance. Buy a toaster and buy an air fryer and you will be happier than you would be if you bought this. You will be amazed how much you can cook/roast/bake in an air fryer. Choose small-sized models if you don't have much space. If you don't have a real oven, buy a counter top model. But don't buy this.
Instructions say to preheat to the temperature you want. Then you have to turn the temp knob to air fry. I can't tell if it is holding the temperature I set it at. I may try getting an oven thermometer to be sure. The fan noise is very quiet. My old air fryer was very noisy. I will try more fried foods to see if they get crispy enough. I bought a digital external thermometer and used it with my B&D air fryer oven. First of went up to 450 when I had it set to 400. Then when I turned the k on to air fryer, it dropped below 300 and never got any higher. I had to finish cooking in another appliance. I bought the warranty and plan to return this. Temperature is not controllable. Air fryer is too weak.
Most all air fryers give you a particular temperature to set and then number of minutes. This just goes to air fry & put in minutes which I tried doing chicken thighs and was much lobger than sopposed to be.
I feel it is just something that takes up a lot of space!!!

After my glaring review below, I now need to take it back!! The dang thing is now broken after only 4.5 months of use. My old Kitchen Aid lasted for 3-years. I guess that’s that it for me trying B&D brand toaster ovens. Apparently they're disposable. 🥴
UPDATE: 01 FEBRUARY 2020
I’ve had this toaster since 25 October 2019, so far so good! Amazing toaster oven. Toaster and Air-Fry function does its job quickly. Baking is another though. The temperature setting seems to be lower than my old Kitchen Aid. I used to bake a small frozen pizza at 225 for 20mins in my old toaster-oven. Now I have to do 375 for 30mins. 🤔
Note about cleaning:
- Make sure you remove most of the food dropped inside before you pull out the drip/crumb pan because it gets scraped when you pull it out. The scraps end up on the bottom of the toaster and in the indent beneath the door. See pics.
- If you want to keep the inside ‘stainless steel’ colour, you have to wipe it down (after it’s cooled) the insides if there’s splatter. I’ve been lax in mine and it’s started to turn dark. 😐🤦🏻♂️
Always had a toaster oven in the kitchen. In addition to the regular sliced bread toaster. It’s convenient in baking and grilling small stuff instead of using the main oven - saves on energy too.
This is the first B&D brand toaster oven I’ve bought. It’s a bit of a downgrade from my usual Kitchen Aid quality with really thick stainless steel casing and heavy. This B&D unit is very light and the stainless steel is very thin. But for all that it can do and how big/wide it is.... hands down I’m very happy with it. The current Kitchen Aid Model, I bought - I ended up returning as the cooking clearance overhead was too low.
The air-fry (convection) option on this unit is great for reheating take home fries, but need to be careful on frozen fries as it burns the edges before getting cooked throughly.
All in all, I recommend this product. 👍🏼👍🏼
