SIM cards DO NOT hot swap (it says this on the sticker under the battery cover).
Put in your sim card, THEN boot the phone. Following the instructions to do it at setup won't get you anywhere. It has to go in before the phone turns on.
Swipe down with 3 fingers for a screen shot. This is a nice add on.
And... Check out the supported bands! This thing has T-mobile band 12. That's what sold me on it. For superior coverage, this is a top pick. As a pocket computer... eh. Not such a good pick.
The big BUT on this phone is the 1gb ram. It's fine - for phone calls, and maybe light web browsing. That's about it. Spotify won't run (but that's likely a storage space issue - 4.4gb of the 8gb available is used by the system) - even with a microSD card installed for its data (the setting to move to SD card isn't available for some reason).
Accessibility settings don't remain on - this was HELPED by disabling battery optimization for apps requiring accessibility (Pie Control - coolace), but the settings don't stick. Certain apps just don't function without these capabilities. This again is likely due to the low ram. Multi-tasking is impossible here; PieControl won't remain running in the background when opening the App Store.
And it's really a pity.
Hold out until September when the Blu Stuio Touch with the extra gig of ram comes out. That one will be much better than this one - for about a $10 difference.
Over all the finish and feel of the phone is nice. The finger print scanner is a great addition (though I agree with other reviewers that capacitive Back and Swap App buttons should have been added - and the on-screen buttons removed). Interesting note; you CAN disable the onscreen buttons in Settings. This would be AMAZING - if Pie Control worked >_<
THAT BEING SAID: tapping or swiping the fingerprint sensor works as a BACK button. Pressing and holding the button works for Swap Apps function. So the extra buttons are unnecessary. This is a GREAT feature, and does allow you to turn off the on-screen buttons to get some screen space back.
I really like Blu's touch on the OS. The features they've added are convenient and useful - but they haven't messed up Android or how it works. They're just "add-ons" that are totally optional to use (generally short cuts to do other things).
The Fingerprint App launch links are nice - but don't do what I want them to do. Basically, if your screen is off - you can pick (one of) your (5) fingers to unlock the screen... and you can link each finger to a different app (or contact). Unfortunately, these "quick shortcuts" only work when the screen is off - it doesn't allow for fast app switching. That was going to be my work around for PieControl not working. Oh well...
For me, I'm a heavy app user. This phone just won't cut it. It was purchased to get me by until the ZTE Axon 7 comes out (which was supposed to be last week - but apparently it's not shipping until the middle of August, or maybe even September). While I REALLY want to like the Blu - and I do like a lot of the things it does - I don't think it's going to work even for this short amount of time. I drive for Lyft - and need a couple apps open at the same time (Maps and Lyft at minimum), and this phone can't do that.
So - who would this phone work for? Children you don't want playing the latest games (i.e. Pokemon Go) or wasting too much time with their phones - but insist on having a smart phone. The features ARE nice - as long as multitasking isn't necessary, and the price point really can't be matched. Reception has been good so far (on par, and at times better than the Moto G(4) on T-mobile in San Francisco).
B/G/N wifi networking (no A/AC) is another hit - but for 99% of the population it won't matter. I get a solid 46mbps from my A/C/N router - and the average internet speed (at least in the US) is close to 30mbps. Realistically, it isn't going to affect you - unless you're on Google's Fiber or a crazy fast cable connection (we get about 180mbps here - but that's not even standard for San Francisco) - then the lack of A/AC could be felt).
Low end Android phones have always been the bane of Android's existence. While Blu seems to be pushing the envelope with finish and features, the hardware specs just aren't good enough to make using this phone a pleasurable experience. It'll get most people by - but for anyone wanting a phone that can handle basic multi-tasking or run any type of accessibility apps, this one isn't for you.
Decent battery life
Good phone for the price
Very high quality screen
Feels a bit cheap
Fingerprint sensor works, but sometimes other people can unlock the phone without their finger actually set up.
Doesn't have enough power and resources
Sometimes laggy and apps crash randomly
Overall a good phone for the price, but I would recommend getting the 16gb storage with 2gb memory version.
