I am not an electrician. 4000 watts is 4000 watts. I bought an adapter for my 30 amp plug going from this inverter to my RV trailer plug.
The microwave (1000 watts) wouldn't work, the AC unit (1800 watts) wouldn't work. Worthless to me. It did power up an electric grinder.
It also powered up a 500 watt small heater.

Just realize that for power from ones batteries to a RV one must have an inverter that is rated at 30 amps - not 15 amps.

The first one came in on July 2, 2015 and was DOA. The packaging was sub par since it was in original unsealed box with no outer box for added protection. When I opened it a strong hot electrical smell was present. There were scratches top and bottom of unit. When I hooked it to battery and turned it on a beeping and flashing of lights began. I had no load plugged in but it said 9,999.99 watts overload. The battery wires began overheating. I believe I was sent a defective and previously returned item. The replacement came today with the original box packed inside a heavier box that was sealed. The unit powered up and seems to be fine with small loads. I hooked up 5 gal. shop vac but it ran less than a minute before going from 12.5 volts to 10.5 which caused it to shut down from low voltage. I will try other loads at later date and update this review.
Update 07/16/2015: Runs 1300 watt shop vac, side-by-side fridge, lights/fan in bedroom and bathroom all at same time. Please note that this is with a Renogy 400 watt solar system feeding power for the two marine batteries. The only thing wrong is that the watt meter only shows watts briefly when you plug something in and then it reads zero. There is no way to see total watts being used of combined appliances. Hope tech support comes up with answer soon or back it will go. Why have a watt meter if it will not give total so you can make sure you don't overload it.

Excellent customer service, but DOA

I've a long history of working with high-powered electronic components... And took adequate measures to be prepared to hook this item up correctly when I received it.

After following the directions to perfection, I power the unit up. While cycling through its initial power up cycle, several sounds from inside the unit similar to Sparks and/or an electrical arcing occurred and there was a faint smell of burning electronics noticeable.

Naturally I powered everything down at that point and called The manufactures customer service.

I was transferred to a competent individual in the customer service department, who step me through everything I did and what occurred with the unit. He was extremely competent and courteous, and agreed that the unit was defective.

Needing a solution immediately, I ended up going to a marine supply store locally, where I purchased a similar specification unit, that was much larger and industrial in size... For approximately the same price. That unit has worked extremely well.

I also commend Amazon on their prompt refund of the energizer product.

So I give the defective unit two stars based upon good customer service.

Not worth it, doesn't perform to spec

First I will start by stating I believe I received a defective unit that might have been returned. I say this because I noticed a few scratches on the unit that was packed like new. Could just be poor qc from the factory but the damage was cosmetic and the only sign of use, the nuts looked new and everything was packaged and taped as new. Bought from amazon directly.

That being said, if this was not a defective unit, it severely under performs. I've tested it running from a car and from deep cycle golf cart batteries. Shortly after running I get a low voltage warning and it shuts down. Reset the unit and it works for a short while. I tried stress testing it and could never get it to run above 1700 watts. I was using 0awg cables that were running cool. Power source was tested to be sufficient. Only problem could be the unit itself.

Aside from the unit not working up to spec, for the price it doesn't include any cables or remote. I knew this when purchasing, I just didn't know there is a peak inverter for 3k watts for almost half the price. I just bought that unit and it includes short 0awg cables and a remote, for roughly half the price. I will be testing it shortly.
