It's a long while after this album came out. So, i just popped in to see the reviews towards this masterpiece & DANG! We got too many kids who are more concerned about THIER instrumental tastes than theme,lyrics/vocals BIG TIME!..and yes, the beats are massively gritty. This album is massively dark & very New York based. I can't really forsee a kid in sunny LA bumpin' this in a caddy...or a kid in the long fields of Kansas playing this while doing his delivery job. The tracks are stiff, drunken, & gutter as it can get. BUT, you even got kids saying his lyrics fell off...WHUT? Following the multi-syllabic craze (ala Kool G Rap, Illmaculate, Thesaurus, Termonology) virusing every emcee nowadays...Dumil just RIPS it! Good lawd, check out tracks like Lightworks" or "Thats that". Dood is just ridiculous!
I wish he could of done a vocal to follow up the classic Raekwon joint "Yessir".
& i dont dig the Empress's joint. But man, this was technically his best album to date if it were based upon solely skills..easily! The album was in NO way rushed,,,it has beat switches, heavy layering & 3948934 cartoon samples as always! It just goes to show the direction Hip-Hop is looked upon nowadays..but if you want an album as raw as a bloody steak & that'll leave you more buzzed than gulping down several ice cold Heinekins & a bottle of Barefoot Merlot buzzed feel..yeah dis the one right here! Nuff said....

Hands down, any DOOM fan is going to love this album. His lyrics are in top notch shape, and the beats are beyond sick. I also like that the few appearances (Ghostface, Raekwon etc...) are very beneficial, instead of harmful like some features. The song "Lightworks" is amazing, the sample and beat is amazing to me!! In all fairness though, every track is nothing short of classical. The masked villain is still my favourite emcee of all times. (only thing that sucked for me, is that my copy was in a regular plastic case), this of course was the sellers fault, would've been nice to have the REAL thing, but the music is awesome. BUY THIS!!!!

A rare non-lo-fi MF Doom album

I am not a big fan of Doom's own production, which is why I much prefer Madvillain to nearly any of his other work. That said, his production is quite welcome among this eclectic bunch of mixed beats. This album is very well mastered, and he really brought out some bars here, as far as his flow quality. All Doom fans are picky, because he gives enough variety to warrant that, but I love JJ Doom, Dangerdoom, Madvillain, Viktor Vaughn, and BORN LIKE THIS the best. Make of it what you will.

I don't know what to say. But you, if you REALLY love true hip-hop, will LOVE this album! I can not stop listening to Gazillion Ears! Doom is just what hip-hop needs. We lost the wildout rap style when Common cleaned up his style to be more "commercial", we lost grimey when Wu-Tang ceased to hit the airwaves with gritty material (well, when the radio stopped playing it), we lost beats when Dilla passed away (r.i.p. JayDee), and we lost headbob when TCQ broke up.

All I have to say is Doom is the resuscitation of hip-hop!

From the moment you listen to the intro track, you won't stop listening to Doom. Gazillion Ears is the track that sets this whole album off. Doom must have listened to fans who said they would love to hear him doa a track longer than 2-3 minutes because this one is over 4 mins! Woo-hoo! I personally like Absolutely and Microwave Mayo as those tunes deliver a specific sound I like in hip-hop, but the album itself is very good! The track with Ghostface named Angelz is str8 crack! Even Yessir! with Raekwon is beast! I am very hard to please but I can't think of one track where he isn't spittin heat. His unorthodox rhyme style is just what's needed in today's Autotune gen and hollow lyrical content (Thanks Kanye for stinkin up hip-hop's hallways!).

If you haven't copped it, download, listen, love it! Doom is coming for heads inthe industry if you ain't heard!

Doom's production is what I believe the RZA's production would have been like if he had continued to innovate instead of trying to emulate what people told him was his old self. I always enjoy Doom albums and appreciate his creativity and even willingness to get weird. Good thing about Doom though is that he doesn't lose sight of what people think is good like Andre 3000 did.
