Break Your Subwoofer In
A new subwoofer must go through a short but important process of 'break-in' before it is run under harsh conditions. The 'break-in' process will ensure the subwoofer is able to perform as it has been designed to. This process involves subjecting the subwoofer to no more than low-to-medium volume levels for a number of hours in the enclosure. 3-4 hours is generally sufficient for the subwoofer’s suspension to loosen enough to prevent the voice coil(s) from overheating and causing failure. The break-in period is also effective in extending subwoofer life. Over-driving the woofer before it has been properly broken-in will usually result in premature failure and poor performance.

Cone: Poly Injection
A substance called 'Polyurethane' and is categorized as a 'Polymer'. It is a resilient and durable manufactured material that can take the place of paint, cotton, rubber, metal or wood in thousands of applications across virtually all fields. It can be hard like fiberglass, squishy like upholstery foam, protective like varnish, bouncy like rubber or sticky like glue.
In the specific case of our cones, this material allows for maximum give that produces great sounding speakers lasting you a long time.
Surround: Butyl Rubber
Butyl Rubber is a synthetic (man made) rubber and is valued for its chemical inertness, impermeability to air and the ability to endure or resist exposure to the many types of weather fronts. Butyl rubber has many different applications. Anywhere from Sports equipment to automotive parts, the medical industry and more. We use them for the Surrounds that connect the cone to the basket.
Voice Coil: Copper
'Anodizing' is a process used to increase thickness of the layer on the surface of metal parts. This process increases corrosion resistance, wear resistance and provides better adhesion for paint primers and glues than other bare metals. The color Black has been used in the case of the P156DVC subwoofer.

Low frequency sound reproduction is the first thing you’ll notice when you hear a super-sub. The percussion you feel is the second, and in the case of our PHANTOM Subwoofers maybe even the third. Combine that with extraordinary cosmetics and our PHANTOM Subwoofers will guarantee you a position in the winner’s circle.

If you're an audiophile, do not go with these subs...but If you're a teenager, or goon that just want's some loud bass and doesn't need studio quality bass; these are an amazing deal.
This second one i decided it best to follow the manufactures suggested break-in period. I set my EQ to flat, and adjusted the volume to around 3/4 (the amount the amp started producing clipped waves). I then adjusted the gain on the amp while playing a 50hz test tone, to an equivalent of 300w RMS. This still produced decent bass and good quality sound.. so i kept it that way until about a week ago when i thought the sub blew again. This time it was the cone separating from the spider. I decided rather than waiting two more weeks for another one, i would gorilla glue it.. which worked for about a week, when the voice coils fried again.
Longer story short, this sub is nowhere close to what the rating is. don't waste your money on this one.. buy a name brand sub that's actually going to take the wattage it claims to.
These are not the first speakers I have purchased from Boss Audio. I normally buy Pioneer but I have had good luck with Boss Audio Speakers. I am not a fan of their amplifiers though.
