-This radio is a single DIN (generic radio size for most cars) If the radio you are replacing is more than two inches in height, then you'll also need to buy a dash kit to fit your radio slot from double to single DIN. You'll also need to secure the metal sleeve that comes on the radio too your new dash kit.
-You'll need a wire harness specific to your car model. This allows the power and speaker wires that come with the radio to connect with the speaker and power wires in your car. To do this, just match the colors of your radio wires to the colors of the wire harness wires. Either solder the ends together or wrap them around each other and put a protective cap on them. Also make sure you do this before you connect the harness to the car. Make sure you connect all the radio wires to the wire harness. There will likely be more wires on the harness than you'll need. Ignore unused wires. Also sometimes your car will have more cables than the radio will need. Ignore them. This radio has a 4 channel output. This means it'll only connect to four speakers. It has out puts for an amplifier as well, if you want to attach more speakers.
-Connect the wire harness and antenna wire to the back of the radio, and you're good to go. Some people recommend you disconnect the battery to be safe.
Great radio for the price. I was expecting a cheap plastic cover. I'm a trained competitive musician, and am quite pleased with the sound quality. A lot of people think the blue LED is too bright at night, in reality it's far less bright than the headlights of oncoming traffic. The sleeve that comes with the radio is a little tricky to mount, but its nothing a little creativity won't solve. I've also seen some reviews complaining of volume. The loudest output is 50W out of each speaker, which is more than loud enough to concern your doctor and anger your nicest neighbors. Don't be that jerk face. Overall this radio is exactly what I expected for the money with a better sound quality than I thought.
1) MicroSD card: Works fine with a MicroSD card in the larger adapter. If the unit does not recognize your SD card, push in the power (Volume) button and reinsert the SD card. They recommend using no larger than a 4GB card to make it easy on the stereo computer, most people have those laying around unused anyway. I filled mine with 500 songs and the tracks move fine with no sound between. The chief drawback is that this unit ignores folders. It has a skip function to go ahead/back 10 songs, but if you're trying to flip through albums this is not the unit for you. Get a CD capable unit.
2) The USB port is a bit disappointing, in that it only counts to 999 songs. This is a programming flaw, as there is not a computer on the planet that counts to 999 for anything. So if you have a 32gb USB stick, you'll get nowhere close to filling it before it stops counting the songs you have on it.
My music playlist consisted of about 1900 songs. So to compromise, I split up the songs on two USB thumb drives on my computer first, then labeled them each for use in my car. The unit happily counts the songs when the USB stick is first installed, not every time you start the car. Thank goodness for that. But there is an unacceptable flaw with the USB feature: It creates an audible loud hiss of static between every song. I can overlook that due to the unit's price, but why does the SD stay silent between songs, yet the USB songs crackle between each? Not good. But still usable. (And if you don't like this happening, just get another SD card, instead. )
In closing, if you are driving long distances and just want your favorite stuff to play, this is a fine unit and does everything advertised. If you want to skip to specific albums or artists, get the more expensive BOSS with the CD player, or the even fancier one with the color screen and backing camera. Thanks to BOSS for including labelled connector cables, this unit fit fine with a SINGLE-DIN adapter cage that I also purchased through Amazon.
The aux jack got a little loose after awhile, and one of the capacitors leaked causing some audio problems.
No big deal, worked for over a year trouble free, I love it
