-This radio is a single DIN (generic radio size for most cars) If the radio you are replacing is more than two inches in height, then you'll also need to buy a dash kit to fit your radio slot from double to single DIN. You'll also need to secure the metal sleeve that comes on the radio too your new dash kit.
-You'll need a wire harness specific to your car model. This allows the power and speaker wires that come with the radio to connect with the speaker and power wires in your car. To do this, just match the colors of your radio wires to the colors of the wire harness wires. Either solder the ends together or wrap them around each other and put a protective cap on them. Also make sure you do this before you connect the harness to the car. Make sure you connect all the radio wires to the wire harness. There will likely be more wires on the harness than you'll need. Ignore unused wires. Also sometimes your car will have more cables than the radio will need. Ignore them. This radio has a 4 channel output. This means it'll only connect to four speakers. It has out puts for an amplifier as well, if you want to attach more speakers.
-Connect the wire harness and antenna wire to the back of the radio, and you're good to go. Some people recommend you disconnect the battery to be safe.
Great radio for the price. I was expecting a cheap plastic cover. I'm a trained competitive musician, and am quite pleased with the sound quality. A lot of people think the blue LED is too bright at night, in reality it's far less bright than the headlights of oncoming traffic. The sleeve that comes with the radio is a little tricky to mount, but its nothing a little creativity won't solve. I've also seen some reviews complaining of volume. The loudest output is 50W out of each speaker, which is more than loud enough to concern your doctor and anger your nicest neighbors. Don't be that jerk face. Overall this radio is exactly what I expected for the money with a better sound quality than I thought.
The screen is quite small, which one can tell from the pic, but on top of this the bottom part is completely wasted. What you see in the pic is not optional, it is all the bottom half can do. The graph portraited as a spectrum analyzer is surprisingly unrelated to sound frequency, it is essentially a vu-meter with a predefined curve. The constant picture of a car in the middle is even more useless. Bottom line: the entire screen can only show 7 characters at a time, so that compounds to the navigation buttons issue.
I am pretty sure it does not play the first fraction of a second of at least some of my mp3 files. This is only noticeable on tracks that have audible music immediately of course.
These issues are what earn it this mediocre rating. Other aspects are decent.
I found out the hard way that it is worth spending the extra $16 over a less reliable stereo like this one for $27
The acceleration whine only occurs when my MP3 player is charging via 12v port. I don't mind it much, and it's easy to isolate. The sound quality is also very good. I've tweaked the equalizer and loud settings to find a great match, and the SD card works great. I had to paint over the blue accents with nail polish because it was too bright at night. It's not perfect, but for the money it's a great buy.
Sound is good on Aux
I get the acceleration whine when the volume is turned up that some people have mentioned.
Radio stations don't seem as clear as my factory stereo
The blue lights. Oh god, the lights. They are very bright and distracting at night. I plan to paint over the vertical blue "accent" features on either side of the volume knob.
Overall, this is an inexpensive system that I would not buy again. It's cheap and it does the trick, but with a few irritating quirks. At least I can jam now.
