Calling the BOSS DB-90 a metronome is like calling The Titanic a "boat" or calling a ferocious tiger a "cat" - terms that just can't convey the concepts correctly. Drums, guitar, bass, keys, vocals... no matter what hat you wear, this baby's got killer tools that'll help you improve your game. First off, the DB-90 is a metronome. It's got four different click types, including a human voice count, which an awesome feature for keeping track of the down beat. You know what's even more fun than practicing to a click? Practicing to a real beat! The DB-90 hooks you up with PCM sample-based drum machine rhythms, and thanks to its Note Mixing function, you can even program in your own beats. And check this out, there are inputs for your mic, guitar, bass, or even drum trigger, so you can practice with headphones and never miss a note. The DB-90's even got an onboard rhythm coach - perfect for drummers. The controls are simple and intuitive, and MIDI input gives the DB-90 extra flexibility when you plug in your controller keyboard.

Anyway, this is a massive improvement over the lame db-88. Most importantly, this machine does not skip and reset when you adjust tempos, it just continues smoothly at the new tempo on the next click. For drummers, this is a huge huge improvement.
Alas, the start/stop button was superior on the 88, you could hit it with a stick or implement. This button is too small and finicky for such action but.... if you aren't a drummer, you won't care anyway.
The world is moving to metronome apps, which provide many many more functions but, will never be, no matter how they try, a dedicated hardware device. With the look and feel of dedicated hardware. There is nothing like it.
Summary: this unit is no "click station" but it's solid for what it offers and I've had very good luck with Boss devices over the years. Their build quality is excellent I've found. My 88 is maybe 15 years old? Still going strong and I have many other boss devices older than that still running no problem.
Seeing that this metronome is cumbersome and not all that portable, I find it helpful to mount it to the wall next to my harpsichord. I use the screw supplied for mounting to a cymbal stand and screw the metronome to an eye hook.
I also recommend downloading the manual for this metronome. It is not exactly the same as the manual that comes with the metronome. The two manuals complement each other. And the downloaded pdf. is searchable.
1.) Controls are very intuitive.
2.) excellent volume control
3.) memory feature
1.) not all that portable since you really need to use a power adapter
2.) eats batteries
3.) lacks some rhythms it needs, specifically one eighth note followed by two sixteenth notes and two sixteenths followed by an eighth. I use the Intelli IMT-1000 for these rhythms. A metronome of this price should really have more rhythms.
