Product Description

How can you not have this on your pedalboard? It's a classic! You love the sound of an overdriven amp, right? Well, sometimes, it's just not feasible to turn way up and get those power tubes cooking. That's where Boss's ultra-affordable SD-1 Super OverDrive pedal comes in! You can dial up everything from subtle grit to smooth, sustaining lead tones with this little wonder. And, best of all, you can control how much overdrive you get by altering your picking attack — just like you would with an overdriven tube amp!

I've been playing guitar for 7 years.
I've been playing in a worship band for a church for nearly 3 years.
I've been leading said worship band for about a year now.
With worship music you don't want anything heavy (especially on Sunday morning with elderly people who question contemporary Christian music), you want a slight over drive. (especially if you're the only guitarist playing or there is only one other guitarist)
The range of sounds this produces is amazing. I could get a simple slight overdrive that is perfect for Sunday mornings.
Or take it all the way to really rock out for a youth event.
Boss pedals are the real deal. period.

I ordered this pedal to use on my pedal board on my B-52 AT-100 Tri-Rectifier (All Tube) Half Stack.

I use the Amps distortion and use this pedal as a Booster (low drive value, higher level value). It essentially turns my 3 chennal amp in to a 6 channel amp; When I activate it on my clean tone, it gives me just a little bit of break-up, it gives a boost to my light distortion and heavy distortion channels when I activate it as well. So I use it when I want an "in-between" my light and heavy setting, or a little more out of my heavy setting, all without throwing the original tone out of whack thanks to the tone adjustment nob which I set to match my amps natural tone.

This adds a lot of versatility to my setup, and I am very happy with it.

I have also played around with using it like a distortion pedal just to see what it was like, and it was satisfactory.

I've used a lot of Boss Pedals in the past and this one is great just like all of the others. I've always liked the silent operation of the Boss Pedals. I've purchased several Electo-Harmonix pedals and, while they have great sound and are made very well, when they are engaged, they make a very loud "CLICK" sound...not so great when you are at a quiet part of a song and want to prepare for an upcoming change in tone/sound and a "CLICK" comes right before you start playing. If you like silent operation then Boss is the way to go.

It looks very simple with only three knobs, but you can get some good sounds out of this simple-looking box.

Very good construction and great sound.

I was on the fence about getting this overdrive because I wasn't THRILLED with the DS-1, (similarly priced Distortion Box) but I was in the market for an overdrive and I gotta tell you, I'm a tone snob, and I was NOT disappointed with this overdrive. Not just for the price, but overall... an excellent choice for an overdrive. I use it to boost an overdriven amp already, by itself on a solid state and pretty much in any application you can think for it because I like to experiment as a bedroom strummer. Get it! I doubt you'd want to give it up.

This is a standard on my peral board along witht he Blues Driver. This little yellow box is the most bang for your buck you are going to find in an Over Drive pedal. It is tough, sounds like fire, and will serve you well. For $50 there is seriously no better deal.

I bought this pedal used and have used it with both a Fender tube amp and a Marshall solid state using clean channels. I can get a variety of tones from it with different guitars, and reccomend it as a first overdrive or to add to a collection.

While I have several overdrive pedals, this one is good at giving some basic overdrive tones while keeping the amps low end. I can get decent tones from a Telecaster and Les Psul by keeping the level and tone knobs below 12 o'clock and adjusting the drive to taste.

The OD sounds great through Fender clean tubes and I also tried it with a bass guitar. With some adjustment of the tone and drive knob, the bass has an overdriven tone with a good drive.

The other reviews here prove this pedal is typical and iconic Boss in build quality. I find the Boss pedals good for their purpose and have mostly modded the ones I've owned after some time, but I may keep this one as is and use it as a boost. These pedals last forever and I only paid $20 for mine.

I picked this up in order to boost my gain on my amp a bit. It does a wonderful job of that (Drive set low and the level set high. Tone set to taste.) The additional noise it produces is relatively low, so you won't have any excessive staticy buzzing sound to deal with. As with any other Boss pedals, it's well made and reliable.

I'm not a gear-head and the only other pedal I have is a Boss loop pedal so take my review for what its worth. I dont know how this item stands up to other overdrive pedals but I am pleased with the tone and operation of this one.It suits me quite fine.
