I purchased this because of the number of online purchases I make and wanting the security of knowing my packages were secure if I was away from home at the time of delivery. I was naturally VERY excited when I received my lock, my container, and secured the container to one of the pillars in front of my home (see pictures). Unfortunately, the first half dozen or so deliveries did not go as planned and the packages were left unsecured on my porch. This was due to a myriad of factors: 1. Delivery people not familiar with the operation of the lock, who attempted to operate the lock and just gave up and decided to leave the package and move on to their next stop (per porch video camera). 2. Delivery people who did not even pay attention to the container/lock on the porch and just left the package and moved on (per porch video camera). 3. Weak wifi signal strength from the rear of my home (router location) to the front of my home (lock location) that cause the lock to lose connection and not open when scanning the tracking bar code. 4. My own concerns over a message received in the app that connection was lost, which caused me to add/delete/add/delete the lock and app, and therefore believe the lock was not functioning as intended.
After several one on one message exchanges on Facebook and a phone call, with the owner/staff of Boxlock (THANK YOU) I was reassured that my lock is in fact functioning correctly (they can tell on their server), and was given some suggestions to address the other situations.
The long and the short of it all is this: 1. Change your address for any orders you place, to show on the second line - "PLEASE LEAVE PKG IN BOXLOCK SECURED CONTAINED ON PORCH". This alerts the delivery person to LOOK for the container/lock. 2. Get a friend to cut some vinyl letters for your lock (as shown in the picture) saying PRESS HERE and SCAN TRACKING NUMBER HERE to instruct the delivery person how to operate the lock. 3. Make sure you have good wifi signal strength, and get a wifi extender, if necessary (I needed to do this anyway to have great strength at the other end of my home).
An added advantage for me, with a home-based business, is that I can text a temporary bar code to my clients, so they can drop off and pick up items even if I am not at home. BAZINGA!!!!! This was just the cherry on top for me!!!!
Most recently, my packages are now being successfully placed in the container by the delivery people, and all appears to be on track. I will say that the staff/owner of Boxlock is AWESOME and was very reassuring that the lock was functioning properly and "talking me off the ledge" the night before (I'm talking 9:00 pm on a Friday night) I was going to return it, because of the "connection lost" message in the app (not the wifi connection but rather something to do with my bluetooth)......thank you, again!!
The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is the delivery people learning curve issues. It's just going to take time for the lock to become more commonly used, and delivery people to be more familiar with it. (Each one that I spoke to and educated on the use were amazed, and said they had not seen anything like it before). But those learning issues can be addressed with the delivery address modification and the instruction lettering on the lock.

Good:
1.) ability to open when a package is scanned (if/when it works and delivery person uses)
Bad:
1.) Spotty Wi-Fi connection (and I have a great setup)
2.) Glitchy app
3.) DELIVERY PEOPLE WILL NOT USE IT - I literally created a waterproof step-by-step list of instructions to put on lockable delivery box right under mailbox. ONE delivery person attempted to use it (and scanned it three times and gave up). I know this, as I have a video camera on my front porch. USPS, UPS, and FedEx all looked at it, read my directions, and set the package on my porch. I even called UPS to see if I could request if the delivery drivers would use it and they said, "it's at the discretion of the delivery person."
Here's an idea -- get Amazon behind your product as they have muscle, have them muscle the delivery services into using it (marketing/training/etc), and THEN market your product.
Until delivery people will use it, and until it works when they actually attempt to, this thing is useless.
I contacted UPS and they know nothing about this product or it's features.
Even Amazon deliverymen bypass it and leave packages on my front porch with just a picture proving that they tossed the package out onto my porch but not that it was delivered in a secure fashion.
I am holding out hope that this product will deliver, but I believe it's release as a secure way to receive packages was somewhat premature
Updated review 9/11/18.
There are a couple of issues with the product. I managed to show the carriers how to use the device. None of them could get it to work, nor could I. After several exchanges with customer support, I learned if the carrier scans the package as delivered in the vehicle, it hits the system as delivered, so it will not unlock the device. In another exchange with customer service I was told (and I have the emails) a delay was built in.
Customer service is fast and friendly. The device and concept are great.
However I have returned the device since only one package from the post office was delivered correctly. Because the Carriers won’t use the device, or if they do, it won’t work because the system thinks it’s been delivered because the package was delivered.
