Intermittent Electrical Contact Problem
on January 27, 2011
While my camcorder (Canon Vixia HF21) did recognize this battery (and operate), the Vivitar-branded battery I received (purchased from New World Video Direct, fulfilled by Amazon) maintained only intermittent electrical contact between the battery and camcorder.
Even moderate movement of the camcorder (lifting it to shoot, for example) caused the battery to quickly loose electrical contact, instantly shutting off the camcorder (now with no battery) without warning. Afterwards, the battery had to be removed and reinserted before the camcorder would respond again. Of course, any additional movement soon caused all this to repeat. The same problem could also be induced by slightly wiggling the battery.
Neither of my two Canon batteries (BP-809 & BP-819) exhibit this same behavior with my camcorder. I'm clearly returning this battery (in that process now), and will obviously now spend the extra money for the Canon version.
