Replace an entire house that had previous BRK 4120B's that were outside of the supported working status and were randomly going off or failing. New units will use old wiring harness from 2120's but you will need to replace the mount ring on the ceiling as they are not the same size however the mounts use the same screw locations so you don't have to back the screws all the way out...just loosen and twist off...twist on new mounting bracket and screw back down. Took maybe 5 minutes per unit to swap out and worked like a champ straight out.

Plug and play with my original smoke alarm wiring. We recently had a full day of smoke alarm noise related to one of then being in failure, which caused all of them to go off. Horrible noise! I replaced all 5 of mine because they were 10 years old. I had to replace all the trim rings because ours had yellowed. We don't smoke. Guess it was just normal age discoloring. Was more work but they look great now and they are working. It's all good.

My house is about 12 years old now, and after the second smoke alarm started acting up, I decided it was time to replace all of them proactively. I have replaced all the detectors/alarms in my house with this model and have not had any problems. The ring that mounts to the ceiling is a different size than the previous model by BRK that I replaced, so I had to swap the whole thing out - but I wound up being glad because the old ones had yellowed a bit and the new ones look nicer.

The problems some folks have are almost all attributed to the batteries. I have been lucky and haven't had those issues, but you basically have three choices: 1) Get a tester and test each battery, replacing those that need it; 2) Replace all the batteries before installing, just to be sure; 3) Install the alarms, cross your fingers, and replace any batteries that chirp. I used option 3 and as I said, have been lucky.

These units are economical and are an easy swap to most builder installed units - using the same wiring harness and connector. Just about as easy an install as you can get. Battery problems have more to do with how long they sit in various warehouses - something beyond the control of the manufacturer and the buyer... so just try to be prepared that some may be old and need immediate replacement and you should be fine.

My smoke alarms were over 16 years old, very yellow, and going off all the time. I thought replacing them all was going to be a big deal. Some quick research revealed that I had the BRK brand installed (probably their original model). I have six in the house so this six pack seemed perfect and it certainly was. These were perfect snap in replacements and it took maybe 15 minutes to install them all. If I had known it was so easy, I would have probably replaced them long ago. Highly recommend this product.

It took me around 2 minutes each to replace my originals with these. I had 9 builder installed 15 year old versions of these several models out of date. All you have to do is loosen a couple of turns the 2 screws that hold the mounting ring and replace it with the new one. Pull the battery terminal plastic to activate the battery backup (9 volt battery is included with these). Then just put the new one on using the exact same plug. I tested from each and all talk to each other and all work great no chirping at all. I was surprised to find some of my older ones still had the original battery in them! Under $100 shipped for all 9 using Prime!

So far so good. Purchased Jan 2015. My house had original wired units from 2002 and we had false alarms in the middle of the night which is terrible bc it's very hard to identify which one is the culprit bc they all go off. After calling the manufacture, I learned that these units expire after 10 years and need to be replaced. Since they were past expiration I replaced them all.

Our smoke detectors were getting old, the house was built in 1999, and the alarms had probably never been changed. When we went searching it seemed that our old model was no longer in production and from all research it sounded like this was the replacement. These so far have worked great. They swapped out really easily and there is no beeping or false alarms since installed. Overall, they have so far been a great investment. We can sleep well at night knowing we have new working smoke detectors in the house.

Used these to replace a similar alarm by the same manufacturer that was installed in my home in 2003. The connectors matched and I didn't need to install the new connector cable. These have been working for over a year now and look great because they are white. The old ones were yellowing with age and just looked dirty besides being outside of the manufacturers recommended replacement cycle. These were more cost effective than purchasing similar ones from the local home improvement stores. My neighbor liked the way it looked and how easy it was replace, so he did the same.
