On close examination of the stove, I found the burner is a screen with a stamped metal cover. The cover has nine angled vanes or fins bent at about a 45 degree angle from the surface, and most or all of the openings and the underside of the fins have a heavy burr left from the stamping process.
Using a small file and emery paper I attempted to remove the burr from each of the openings and fins, and the when I lit the stove the flame was noticeably more uniform and more stable.
Another round of filing and sanding improved the stove's performance even more. The smother the openings and fins become, the better the stove works.
Try to ensure that filings do not fall into the screen under the cover, or if they do, try to shake them out or blow them out. (Eye protection is recommended if using the latter method.)
If you are willing to spend 30 minutes to an hour to correct the factory defects and manually de-burr the fins and ports, this may be a good stove. However, given the condition in which the stove arrived and the effort required to make it work more or less properly, my two star rating for the stove stands.
first off nothing else comes close to the weight of this guy. This is as light as you can go without going alcohol stove. This stove is also $15 which is amazing considering jet boil and msr are $40+. For $15 you get a lot of quality. It boiled water seemingly as fast as my friends pocket rocket on the trail and fuel consumption was about the same.
Cons: the build quality is quite solid but not quite as good as a pocket rocket. I wasn’t sure if that was a pro considering it was $15 or a con. I decided to make it a con because bottom line is it’s not as solid. I DOUBT IT WILL BREAK, so don’t let that last bit deture you from getting it. I suspect it will work for years to come. It worked okey in the wind but got 3/4 blown out by even small winds, an aluminum foil screen was enough to fix that though. The biggest con is that he heat is so direct that if you are cooking food and not just boiling water you will burn your food unless you hold your pot well above the flame the entire time.
Conclusion: get it. I would still buy this guy if it was $40. It’s the best all around stove on the market and although it’s not perfect it’s deficets are marginal at worst. Saving money AND weight isn’t something that’s common in backpacking so come get you some! My full kitchen (toaks 750, titanium spork, scrubber, hot lips, wind screen, soap, BSR stove, and lighter) minus fuel is 6.5 oz now and that’s hard to argue with.
Now for the negative. If you are in a windy area and put up a screen around the canister, stove and lower part of your pot, the stove unit as a whole gets very hot. The problem with this that because the part of the stove that connects to the fuel canister isn't insulated, it in turn heats the nipple of the fuel canister to high levels. I don't use the term 'dangerous' levels but maybe I should have. This situation causes the GSI canisters that I am using to shut off due to heat expansion around the nipple.
One could argue to not put the wind screen up, however in wind, your cook time has gone from 4 minutes to about 10 or so with a high loss of fuel.

First time I took my msr rocket 2 just in case the bsr failed. It preformed well first time. I only used my toaks 500ml cup to boil water for mountain house meals ( 500ml needed for a pack ) and to make tea . Worked great for that had rolling boils in about 2:45 min. Not sure how other ppl have bent the legs as some other reviews have said. Unless they were doing long cook times or useing heavy loads on it . But useing it as a light weight stove for one person for water boils only it is the cats meow. Never had to use my msr . And honestly bsr is 25g msr is 78g so if you count grams like me and use it as it is probably intended ( boiling water 500-750ml ) then it’s well worth the price. Even if you got two and packed two it would weigh less then a msr rocket. Also I used it on a jetboil 4 gram canister and a msr 4gram canister. Worked on those great. So I would rate this as awesome and worth every penny it cost and would say grab a second one as a back up in case they stop making them.
Having used this a few times, it is very difficult to use. I knocked over several pots of soup while just trying to gently stir it. Highly recommended some kind of (non flammable) pot gripper.
One of the arms also bent and became loose (though still perfectly useable), exacerbating the balance issue.
I'd still say it's good for the price and weight, but for a clutz like me I wouldn't buy it again.
The product arrived with Chinese only directions and instructions.
The product was lightweight.
The burner would NOT seal on any gas canister- it was not compatible. GAS SPRAYED uncontrollably despite multiple attempts. My other gas burners were able to make a seal, no problems.
The product DOES NOT work as advertised. The product is DANGEROUS. This burner is useless. I would not recommend. I would like the seller to contact me and issue a full refund. I do not recommend this product.
