I have a 2006 Mac Pro that did not have enough memory in it for me. I am a video editor and a recording musician that needs all the ram that I can get. My problem is that the ram for my Mac Pro is so expensive. That was until the price dropped to a nice low price of $39.00 for 4 GB of ram. I ordered this ram, and then I thought about it and ordered another 4 GB. I wish I had bought another 4 GB, but the price went up again. The ram works great and I have not had any problems since I have put the ram in my Mac Pro. For the price that the company is charging, it is still a good deal for the ram, just not as good as it was when I bought my ram. Mac Pro users you can't go wrong with buying this ram.

I have one of the original Mac Pros with the twin dual core Xeon 2.66GHz processors and it shipped with 4gb of RAM (2 x 2GB). I added another 4GB from Crucial about 2 years ago and really needed 16GB.

This RAM is amazing for the price. I installed 8GB of this for under $90 where the Apple memory would have required me to sell a Kidney or my Spleen (if I had a Spleen, but I don't so that wouldn't work and I kind of need that Kidney as a result).

So the RAM works perfectly and the only thing that has happened is that my machine is running a lot better as it has WAY more RAM overhead for Video Editing and also running Virtual Machines in Fusion.

I have not noticed any appreciable increase in heat, fan speed, or anything else that would warrant writing home about.

Love this memory and would buy more if I needed it!

Not sure if it was my computer or what, but after putting these in, then the computer went into overdrive on temperature control and made a really loud sound. I ended up returning them. My computer went back to normal after taking them out.

Got this to fill up the last empty slot of my 2006 Mac Pro, and I am really happy about this product.

So far the memory works great; no conflicts or errors in read and write; which means no kernel panic at all.

Tried OWC memory and they were purely bad; and the original Apple memory were overpriced; so I had to find an alternative and these were just perfect.

If you have an old Pro, get these memories, you can get 16 Gb on your machine for very cheap nowadays.

I bought these intending to upgrade my original MacPro (MP 1,1 2.66 gHz Quad) from 8 GBs of ram to 11 GB (removing two 512KB sticks in the process). The last couple of ram sticks I bought were cheap things off an auction site, but they worked fine and these from Komputer Bay had good reviews. I figure if it registers in the system it works, right?

Well, the first time I tried to install them, after I powered the machine back up, the main fan (the one over the main processor) started spinning out of control and spitting up a dust storm from deep inside the machine (guess it's time to clean it). But it kept spinning ever faster -- like it was going to explode. So I powered it off before it fully booted, removed the new Ram and reinstalled the old. But the machine wouldn't re-boot. It took a while to figure out that powering off in the middle of boot up had caused a kernel panic, but ultimately I was able to boot from a different drive and then reboot from the original OS drive.

So I let the machine run as before for several days and everything performed flawlessly. Then, to confirm, I shut the machine down, let it cool quite a while so that there was no residual heat and put the new Ram sticks back in being extra careful that everything was properly seated. I rebooted and immediately the fan was running like a 747 engine. But I was prepared for it (and didn't want to cause another kernel panic) so I let the machine fully boot up. The fan was still running out of control and seemed to be going ever faster. I didn't wait to check system profiler for the ram, but powered down properly and switched them out.

Has anyone had a similar experience or does anyone know why Ram might cause this? I haven't sent them back yet and am open to suggestions. I will update this if anything changes.

PS I am running OSX 10.6.8.

Works Great. I have a mac pro 1.1 2006-07 / Xenon Quad Core 3 Ghz Im running OS X 10.6.3, and now have 8 gigs of ram. Be sure to find the right combination of ram before complaning. I had to put my four one gig rams in the top tray and the other two in the bottom. The only thing I can say is that the heat sinks that I got were definitly not as pictured, they were standard aluminum spreaders, but even under heavy use (studio 3 for hours on end) the temp in the bay is fine. For the price I am totally satisfied. This is a great deal.

I originally gave this product one star because I thought it was defective, when it really isn't, so I'm rewriting my review accordingly. What happened was this. I purchased this memory as a replacement for the memory in a 2008 Mac Pro which had died. The memory worked, but the fans started going crazy, and I thought that there was a problem with the heat dissipation in the memory. Actually, what was going on was that the standard Mac Pro memory sticks (which you can buy from OWC at about 4x the price of these) contain a temperature monitor. These ones don't. The Mac Pro monitors the temperature from the memory monitor, and if it isn't there, it assumes the worst, i.e. that the temperature is too high and thus the fans start going at maximum speed. There is nothing you can do about this as far as I know other than to get better memory sticks. So beware: if you are planning to use these as replacement/upgrade memory for a Mac Pro you are going to be very unhappy with the results. If you are using them on a different kind of computer they may well work fine.
