After having a good experience with our first one ( it lasted 3 years and made many great pots of coffee ). Our beloved friends heating element died. We naturally ordered the same model again without hesitation. Unfortunately, the second time around our experience was not a good one.
We couldn't get a decent cup of coffee out of this machine. The list of fixes and different methods we tried to remedy the issues were unsuccessful and too long to list. I will say that I believe the problem was related to the water being injected into the basket to quickly causing it to either overflow or make tea instead of coffee depending on the grind or amount of beans added to the basket.
To those wondering yes, I know it is a high altitude machine ( I lived at 8200 ft ) and the water sprays out at pressure. The diffuser was also in place. Hence my opinion I may have just got a lemon. First machine ran like a top.
Due to our experience though I cannot recommend this product.
I have one of those super-fancy grind, press, brew, and fold your underwear DiLonghi espresso/coffee makers. The Bunn coffee tastes better to me using same beans. I like how quiet it is and the carafe pours well and keeps coffee hot for hours.
Cons: It's big and tall. Takes up 50% more room than my last maker. Barely fits height wise in my appliance garage and the water has to be poured into the top so I have to slide it out to brew. It keeps water hot all the time so it uses energy. Since the reserve is two pots inside it, it takes too long to heat up each morning. I just leave it on all the time. You'll almost certainly have to order the free restrictor to prevent overflow of beans. I called and they sent two of them for free within a couple days.
I gave it 4 starts due to the cons, but I would definitely buy it again vs any other drip brewer I've seen. As for the super-fancy DiLonghi? We've relegated it to making a cup of decaf at night every now and then.
