Less irritation

I'm a black guy who shaves his head bald. Prior to this shaver, I had been using an Andis Profoil Lithium Plus Titanium Foil Shaver to shave my head. After months of using it, I has to give it up due to abrasions and general skin irritation that was leading to scalp hyperpigmentation (skin darkening) from the chronic inflammation. I used other products for the next year, including the Norelco One. During this time, my skin healed. For a closer shave, I wanted to pursue foil shavers again. I figured it was worth a try. I was hoping I might be able to shave my head with fewer passes leading to less inflammation. Without a doubt, this shaver was worth the money. It was able to do what the Andis could not. It's cheaper to operate, and gives a closer shave, than the Norelco One with much less irritation than the Andis.

I've loved my BaBylissPro Custom FX clippers, trimmers and double foil shaver, so buying this smaller, single barrel version of the shaver I already love for my gym/travel bag was a no brainer.

I feel compelled to give this a review since opinions on this brand are polarizing. On one hand, you've got barbers raving about BaByliss as if they are THE brand to get, period. And the other camp, trashing the brand as a hype train thats really overpriced garbage. In my experience, the good opinions seem closer to the truth.

Overall, this shaver is excellent for the price. But I'd easily pay 2x for a single foil, smaller form factor shaver that was more equal to the double foil in features. None of my complaints are a huge deal, but after having such a perfect experience with the double foil, the differences will be noticeable. You aren't JUST getting a smaller shaver.

My minor gripes:

• It's runs on 2x AA batteries (which are included). A rechargeable version would be great. ESPECIALLY for this version, which seems to fit into the product lineup as the travel companion to the double foil. It's nice to charge my stuff the night before I fly out, so I know it'll work for my trip. You never know when batteries are going to die, so if you need to be sure, you're going through batteries fast.

• Unlike the double foil, the single foil version's cap only fits on one way. This is mildly annoying in day-to-day situations since you have to make sure it's lined up to put it on right. The potential upside to this is that the whole body of the shaver (+cap) is thinner and contoured, which should help it slide into a smaller pocket (but I don't put it in my pocket, nor see why anyone else would...)

• It only seems to be sold in silver currently. Some people seem to love the metallic finishes... I dont hate the look, but the fingerprint situation is horrible and the slippery finish isnt my favorite. I much prefer the white matte/satin metal finish on my double foil version. Wish there were more options--or at least one non-metallic finish option.

• The button that releases the foil housing is incredibly hard to push and slide up compared to the double foil version. Once you do, the razor coil inside will usually fly out--because unlike the double foil's razor, this one is only attached with a TINY notch.

Again, I'm being as critical but for a fraction of the price of the double foil, there's nothing to really complain about. I'm going to be disappointed if I find out they release an upgrade in the near future though.

I charged mine and took it with me on a one month trip that ended up lasting four months and it still had power after I came back. The blade also still cuts close after six months of weekly usage. It is quite a high price but I'm getting more convinced that it is worth it. I just wished it came with some guide combs so I could use it to fade as well.

**Update**

After 6 months of use, the grill punctured. Could kot have support thru Amazon and needed to contact manufacturer directly. Sent email and tried to call with no success.

This does the trick for my head. As close as a blade razor. Need to not press to hard to avoid rashes which I learned from my first shave. Also, your hair need to be really short to maximize usage.

Powerful shaver for balding out. It could be a lil rough on certain parts of the face like the cheek area at first but only if you apply pressure like you would a Braun shaver. The key here is to make sure both foils are touching the skin and to let the weight of the shaver do the work. After it was broken in a bit the pressure mattered less. The charger for this also works on my Braun series 5 as well. Well priced compared to Braun and other Babyliss products. Price has come down since last year 2019. I would recommend.
