I purchased this curling iron/straightener for a 9-day trip to London, and I was extremely happy with the purchase and effectiveness of the item. I did extensive reading/research on the web and various travel sites, and I even spoke w/my Italian hairstylist (who travels back to Italy regularly) who reports he's had several problems with other items, and insisted I get a transformer and adapter as the only way to prevent destroying the curling iron. These are costly (~$30-40 in U.S), plus cost of item, so I decided to spend that same money on the curling iron alone and take my chances. Thus I was fully prepared for this little item to blow up once I got to London and plugged it in, but I honestly can say it worked perfectly the entire week. I had the small adapter plug (which can be purchased for $9 in the US or sometimes as low as 2-5pounds in the UK/Scotland), which is far less expensive than a transformer, and took the iron to various friends homes/flats and had no issues whatsoever. It heats up very quickly, curled my hair nicely, and the curl held throughout the day except in heavy rain (which I considered normal and would have happened in the U.S.). The only mild limitation was that it doesn't grip hair as tightly as some other curling irons I've used, but it certainly did so enough to be effective. It also takes a while to cool down, so bring a sleeve for it when you use it! All in all, fairly affordable and functional. Happy travels!

This product is leaps and bounds above it's other price-range curling irons - it gets very hot relatively quickly and is pretty easy to use.

Unfortunately you do get what you pay for (and I was ripped off paying $45 at the beauty store for it.) After about 2 days of use, there was a short in the rotating cord and if the iron is held at an odd angle, it turned off. It was still usable, but I had to modify the way I curled my hair to avoid it turning off and losing heat. After about 6 months, you can see the ceramic coating chipping off a little - and I used the iron about 3-4x per month.

If you're in the market for a cheap curling iron - I would suggest this because compared to the Revlon, Remington and Conair brands I've had in the past, this is the closest to a high end curling iron among them - most likely you will have better luck with your iron than I did.

Most importantly, the iron doesn't get that hot. I want to see smoke after a minute because that's what 400F should do! The stand gets way too hot because it rests on the iron. The on off switch is poorly located so you inadvertently end up turning off the iron or lowering the heat setting while trying to load your hair. Whack!

After having experienced a very serious hair "incident" on a business trip with a curling iron designed only for U.S. outlets, I was forced to make a quick change. (Side note: ladies, be careful!! a curling iron designed only for 110v usage used in 200v+ countries WILL burn your hair off if you use it with just the adapter and not a transformer too!!! Please don't learn this the hard way like I did!)

I bought a transformer to go along with my travel adapter for my next trip and discovered that the 110v curling irons just don't work well with the transformer in place. I don't know why, but for some reason, they just don't seem to heat up. I considered buying a European curling iron just for use in international travel, but when I saw this one, I realized that it was a better solution. I don't need to worry about different curling irons depending on which country I'm going to and don't need to carry around a clunky transformer that will render the tool useless anyhow.

Keep in mind, you'll still need a small adapter to use this outside of the US because the plug is intended for American outlets, but you won't need a transformer. This works equally well at home or abroad, so even if you don't have travel plans yet, you can safely buy it without any worry.

My only complaint was that there seemed to be a bit of industrial grease (or something from the factory) on the handle when it arrived. I briefly considered returning it, but was able to clean it off. I'm not mentioning this to complain because as you can see from the rating, I love the curling iron. I just am mentioning it in case anyone from the company sees it - I'm sure it was a one-time incident and it came off easily, but was a bit off-putting at first.

I am a professional hairstylist and travel abroad quite a bit. I am amazed at the lack of dual voltage options for curling irons! I settled on this one because I couldn't find one in my local beauty supply. I think this is a solid product that heats up evenly and fast and stays hot! It definitely does what it is suppose too. For the reviews that say this doesn't hold a curl in the hair, well this size of iron is not ment to give a full curl, only a loose wave and maybe not even that for anything shorter then shoulder length. If you want curls go for 1.25 inch or smaller! For a dual voltage curling iron this is a solid product.

This is not a Babyliss product, which is what the box says. The iron it's self says Conair, Not only are they selling a knock off, it's a horrible curling iron. It takes FOREVER to heat up and doesn't hold heat.
