I looked through Babes in the wool and like the patterns and styles and instructions very much. i'd say am an advanced-intermediate knitter??, but certainly a beginner can make these dolls. But i personally am going to convert these patterns to working in the round, because it makes sense to me to do so! (I did this with Knitted Babes,)
i LOVE the shaping involved (breasts, face) in these wool babes. (that is lacking in the knitted babe book, which is not a deal breaker by any means. I thought that the wool babe faces were awesome, but my daughter likes the knitted babe faces better, she thinks the wool babes' faces are scary. i explained to her that the wool babes have that 'dead eye' look because they are entrenched in the fashion world, and that is just the way fashion models look when they are at work, it is all abut selling the clothes, not getting you to pay attention to their face, LOL. But i told her, don't worry, i can get their face to be more friendly. That is what is great about these various dolls, you can personalize them.
OK, well, i hope that may have helped you to decide if you are wavering between the two babe books. Knited babes is a simpler babe, with many more clothes. But the the wool babes are a more advances doll, with less clothes. (there are actually 3 different levels of doll body patterns) i hesitate to say it is a quantity vs/ quality thing, because both books are great, but perhaps the knitted babes book is like a craft/toy project, while the babes in the wool book is like an art project book. I am glad to have gotten both.
So fun. So mod-girl. I totally had to have this book. Thank you Fiona!!!
I love the fact that they become real characters limited only by ones imagination.
