Beautiful Illustrations and accurate as well!

We love this book and downloaded the song for the full experience. The Book is accurate regarding the whole dolphin/whale situation. Orcas belong to the dolphin family even though they’re called killer whales. Much like how a whale shark is a fish. My four year old thought it was a mistake as well and we simply used it as a teaching experience. Plus Belugas live in the arctic so I would not expect to see a common bottle nose dolphin in the same climate. It is also worth mentioning that there is a species of dolphins called false killer whales (pseudorca crassidens). So that could also be it. Overall a Fantastic book with beautiful illustrations. We love the “little white whale on the go!”

I bought this book for my granddaughter, as her mom & I used to listen to Raffi in the car. Baby Beluga was the song we sang over and over.

When I saw that this book was available I obviously had to buy it. When we gave the book to the baby and sang the song, she LOVED IT. Now every day she searches for this book so her mom will sing it to her. She will find this book wherever it is--bookshelf, toy box, under the couch--hand it to her mom, and start swaying back & forth. We will catch her holding the book upside down and "singing" with it.

It's the favorite thing she owns and she reaches for it several times a day. Best "toy" I've given her!

A Colorful Companion to the Classic Kids Tune by Raffi

Forty years ago (as of the time of this writing) Raffi introduced the world to a little white whale on the go - baby beluga. Since then, the song has featured in numerous outlets, been part of the plot of sitcoms, and more. If you were born in 1980 or since - or have a child that was born since 1980, chances are you’ve heard and / or sung the song.

So what does that have to do with the book? Well, as the title “Raffi Songs to Read” would imply, this book isn’t a story book - rather, it’s a beautifully illustrated set of lyrics for the song. So you can sing your way through the book, or stop and read page by page and take in the art work with your child/grandchild/etc. Great for helping little ones visualize what’s in the song, the board book format is also appropriate for even the smallest little ones.

The only possible negative I can even think of is that, as an adult, the lyrics don’t always quite make sense - particularly when read line by line vs sung. But such is the magic of childhood that it doesn’t matter.

The story is cute, matches the song. I do like the illustrations. I bought this for a baby shower from a registry so I was disappointed when the first book came sort of bent, like a torsion force had been applied. Amazing amazon service- I submitted the return request and they sent a new one promptly. Although the new one wasn't as bad, it still had the same problem. This means the book doesn't close nicely. I ordered another book in the first order, and it had a few faint marks on the cover (grabbed by a machine??) but it was overall in great shape, so I can tell this problem is unique to this book and it wasn't just once, hence the review.

At 2 years old my youngest daughter fell in love with this song (illustrated here in board book form). At 3 1/2 she still loves this book and her 7 year old sister enjoys it too. The illustrations are artistic enough that my older daughter doesn't feel it is too "babyish", and yet are very realistic (to the extent that the baby whale is still somewhat animated) and subdued so that they are soothing for my younger child as well.

It is a simple, catchy tune about a baby beluga whale. The pictures are engaging and my daughter loves this book as much as the song. She flips through the pages and from the illustrations generally knows when to turn the page along with the memorized lyrics that she knows. The words are completely true to the Raffi song.

Several of the illustrations also contain other sea animals (puffin, walrus, etc.) that are fun for us to study the pictures and identify. The only trouble my daughter has is that on pages where there is only one beluga whale in the scene she is either sad for the baby that his mother is not there, or due to a trouble understanding proportions, thinks the baby is missing and the whale is the mother. Perhaps more could have been done to make the baby always visually distinct as such, but then again, she's only 3 :) -- my 7 year old and I both recognize the baby!

The sweetest picture for me and the one my little one especially loves is the night time picture in which the mommy beluga whale is hugging her sleeping baby under her fin. I'm not a marine biologist, but I doubt this is how beluga whales sleep. Nonetheless, it strikes a chord with my co-sleeping toddler and helps to make this a great bedtime book!

It goes exactly in the order of Raffis “Baby Baluga” song, so my toddler loves for me to sing it, or play the song and sing while we turn the pages. The illustrations are lovely and bright and reflect the story perfectly. I would recommend this book to anybody be whose toddler loves books, songs and singing along. It’s one of the books in his library that I also enjoy reading!

I hate huge bulky board books.. this is exactly as thick as it needs to be to be sturdy, without being overly bulky. The pictures are very bright and nice. Catchy song and lyrics. I used to read this book as a child, and now my son has been singing this song since I've been singing it to him from memory. He will be so excited to open this on Christmas day :)
