“Baby, Baby!” by Diane Stortz is a short rhyming poem about those every day events, a giggle, a nap and even a sneeze, that happen in each baby’s life. Each moment of their day is full of wonder, and this story is a celebration of those everyday moments and ends with a reminder of the biggest wonder of all…that we are ALWAYS loved by God.
The message of the story is important for everyone to know. No matter what we do, we are always loved by God. We don’t have to do anything “extraordinary” to receive His love, He loves us just for who we are!
The illustrations are simple, showing a baby doing various every day tasks. I love that it repeats the word Baby. When my children were tiny, they loved anything to do with other babies (and still do). Each activity that the baby does in the story is something that most little ones do every day. As you are reading the book with your baby, have your baby clap and smile and of course be totally selfish and take advantage of kisses and cuddles!
Most babies love to look at themselves in the mirror, which is what makes the last two pages of this book very special. The text simply says, “Who does God Love? God loves ________.” Your child is able to see his own face in the mirror and know that we are talking about him, not some random character in a story.
The book is incredibly sturdy. We had read the book in the car, and it landed on the floor. I love putting board books through tough tests by putting them through everyday situations that kids will put them through, so I left it there for a little over a week. It was stepped over and on and things were dropped on it. The book is still in great condition. You can see a few marks on the cover, but that’s it. The pages didn’t bend or crease. The mirror is excellent, showing your child’s face clearly with very little distortion that is found in lesser quality books.
Is there a message to be found in here for Mom and Dad? Sure there is. One page reads, “Baby reaches. Baby hides.” It made me think of how often we reach for things we shouldn’t and then spend time hiding from ourselves and from God. Perhaps it’s a reach, but it reminds me that God not only loves my baby, he love ME too!
“Baby, Baby!” is a fun book that is perfect for sharing with your little one!
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of "Baby, Baby!" in exchange for my review. All opinions are 100% my own.
Baby, Baby! is a hardcover book designed for infants and toddlers. The illustrations are great and they are large enough to grab the attention of babies. The book is designed for interaction. For example, each illustration includes the baby performing an action, (baby kisses, baby claps). The last page of the book includes a mirror with the question “who does God love? And of course, the baby sees himself, therefore God loves me (the baby)!
Since my children are older I asked a friend to read to the babies in our church nursery. Thank-you Mrs. Suellen Sullivan for your help, God bless you! The response of the babies was diverse and helped to appropriate the audience. The one year old babies loved the book, held it, carried the book around, kissed the mirror, and loved looking at the babies. The two year olds babies enjoyed the story, helped turn the pages, and performed the actions of the story. The three year old was not interested. Please understand that we only had a relatively small number of children to read the book to. Your children may respond differently. But I do believe that our experience may benefit your understanding of the appropriate age, as well as the entertainment and learning quality of the book. Based upon what we have observed, with confidence, I recommend the book.
In exchange for an honest review I have received a copy of Baby, Baby! from FlyBy Promotions. I have given an honest review.
Throughout this book, we see lots of different babies both boys and girls doing things that babies do best. There are babies eating, drinking, splashing, squeezing, pounding, clapping, and so on. The story is a good read because it flows really well-being written in a rhyming way. The illustrations capture babies movements and actions perfectly. Aside from seeing all that babies often do, the book ends on the note that God loves them and a scripture verse that's found in the book of Jeremiah.
The mirror in this book was a delightful surprise. My four-month-old baby girl loves smiling back at herself in the mirror. There's also a spot on the mirror page for me to write down my daughter's name. She'll soon recognize her name and the fact that God loves her with me reading this book over and over again to her. I'm quite happy with this book for my little one and feel it would make a wonderful gift for the special little one in others lives too! I highly recommend it!
