Not so good after all the hype. A rapist with a gentle loving side?? ..hmmm maybe?? Really. I had a hard time swallowing that story line. The maturity of Baby Grand character was not credible to me. Then finally... Finally the ending.A .one liner..leaves one with....... GIVE ME A BREAK!

As an avid thriller reader, it takes a lot to impress me. Many books are riddled with bad writing, uninteresting characters and predictable plots. Not this one! I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of BABY GRAND and it did not disappoint. With real characters and interwoven plots, I was hooked from page one. Dina Santorelli knows how to tell a story and I can't wait to read more!

If I could give this book more than a 5, I would. First, it is not about a piano! The baby is the small daughter of the governor, Philip Grand. She is kidnapped from her crib as is Jamie, a stranger to little Charlotte, in order to take care of her while she is held hostage. So it is a totally gripping story of the survival of each one, with numerous edge of your seat situations. Super thriller right to the end.

This was a terrific read. You have to suspend belief a few times - like that a man would choose a woman to take care of an abducted infant from among women in a park who seem like they like kids - a little loosey goosey for me. Don Bailino, the villian in this thriller, is a conflicted guy - a war hero who served with the governor, whose child he has abducted, and an ex mob guy as well. He is trying to "get out" of the business, but has to do one more favor for the boss. The mob boss is in jail and is asking Don to get a stay of execution from the governor. The theft of the baby is to get so that Don has leverage to obtain the stay from the governor.

Jamie is a great character who finds her strength in taking care of the child regardless of the things she has to endure - like being raped by Don Bailino. She begins to work herself into his good graces in order to escape, but there are a couple other nefarious guys involved in the heist, and they are not so warm toward her. I think the thing that makes the story work, but is maybe not believable is that Bailino falls in love with Jamie. You don't rape someone brutally and then the next minute think you love them.

But I didn't put it down. It isn't literature; it's a thriller. Everything does not have to be believable. I enjoyed it.

Hang on to your hats good readers, and flip the pages of a brilliant new writer's thrilling concept in a can't-lay- -it-down novel, Baby Grand by Dina Santorelli!
Begin in New York's Governer's mansion with a nursemaid's pride and love of her small charge, the only child of the state's leader and his very public wife. This, is a delightful baby girl who is about to walk, the apple of her father's eye.
Then move to the shock and discovery of an empty nursery.
That's only the beginnig folks....kidnapping, execution, murder, long range planning including the abduction of a young woman who will become the caretaker of the Grand Baby, and who becomes a victim herself as she assumes her determined role as a protector.
Santorelli moves us from filial loyalty, questionable maternal affection and criminal persuasion through the reality of a rape that becomes in the reading, nearly visible.
Become a part of the cast as you share the fear of each victim and the anxiety of those who await the outcome.
Santorelli's characterizations develop for you the reader, personal love-hate relationships that shift as they move through an adventure of reality and horror performed without conscience.
All of this and more....and a surprise ending that could very well begin a series of chilling thrillers that will put Dina Santorelli in the realm of a future Cornwell, Johansen, Brown....and yes, Patterson. Yep. She's that good!
It's a good one. Don't miss it. Turn those pages!

Held my attention at first then as the girl gets away (don't they always) it became a dime store novel. Mrs. Grand seems like she is going to amount to some "grand" intrigue and dissolves instead into nothing but a puddle of removed, confused, distraction.
What does it take to find a good fiction book these days? Doesn't seem like I can go by Amazon ratings for that.

One of the gals in my book club picked Baby Grand by Dina Santorelli. I hadn't heard of this book, nor this author. And all I can say is, I’m SO glad it was picked! I had no idea what to expect – and was pleasantly surprised. Ms. Santorelli has some new fans!

Baby Grand is an intense, suspenseful, nail-biter of a mystery that had me sucked in from the very beginning. The author’s writing style makes her book easy to follow and makes you want to know what will happen next. I found it very difficult to put down – serious page-turner! Full of parallel stories that come together perfectly at the end. And one of the many things I loved about this book is that it was not predictable.

I felt the characters were well-developed, and the more I read, the more I wanted and needed to know about them. I loved a few, despised a few, wanted to punch a few, and would love to slap one or two. And there was one character in particular that I loved to hate...and hated to love.

After I read the book, I sent Dina a message on Twitter saying that I enjoyed her book. I also told her that it was our pick for book club and that we were meeting in a couple of days. Much to my surprise and delight, she said she would be more than happy to Skype into our meeting if we wanted. Um…yes please! How cool is that?! She answered all of our questions and explained to us why she wrote certain scenes the way she did. That was our best meeting to date. Thanks, Dina – you rock!

I will definitely be reading more from this author. Looking forward to the sequel!

I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a well-written, fast-paced mystery. Baby Grand gets 5 suspenseful & thrilling stars from me!
