My husband and I originally could not decide between the Baby Jogger City Mini Single Stroller, Blue/Gray and the Baby Jogger City Elite Single Stroller, Green Sport. We loved the extra features of the Elite (e.g. higher weight limit, better tires suited for more varied terrain, and the handbrake), but read several reviews from people who felt that the Elite was sometimes just a little too big to comfortably navigate certain spaces. Yet while the Mini had the size advantage and was more lightweight, we just didn't find it to maneuver quite as smoothly as the Elite.
Happily, the City Mini GT was announced before we made our decision, as this stroller combines most of the advantages we liked about each stroller into a single one. Here is a brief rundown of how the City Mini GT compares on some of the things that mattered to us:
City Elite (CE): 75 lbs
City Mini (CM): 50 lbs
City Mini GT (CMGT): 65 lbs
CE: 26.2 lbs - This one was a little heavy to me
CM: 16.8 lbs - So light!
CMGT: 20.9 lbs - Definitely a noticeable difference over the Mini, but I can still lift it comfortably
CE: 12" 'Forever-air' tires - A dream to push, suited for all-terrain
CM: 8" EVA wheels - Okay, but not nearly as smooth to me as the other two and not meant for all-terrain
CMGT: 8.Read more ›
I strongly recommend NOT buying anything at Toys R Us EVER. Or Babies R Us. The staff are unhelpful every single time I had ever been in, they know nothing about the products and are all really looking forward to going home. I had armed myself with information before going into the store, and was not shocked when I walked in and started taking all of the floor model strollers down off the podium (with one hand!) while their staff at Babies R Us watched me. Not a single one offered to help. If we didn't have a gift card, I probably would have gone elsewhere, but I digress...
As mentioned, I took all of the floor models down, put our son in them, drove him around the store, closed and opened them, lifted them while holding the baby (who is 25 pounds and 10 months old mind you).
I have to address a few of the "Cons" that some of the reviewers mentioned that I don't agree with:
1. Easily scuffable. The last time I checked, this was an item to be used outside, for running, jogging, walking or hitting the trails in the forest. It is also intended to accommodate a small human child, whose behaviors and eating habits imitate those of a tasmanian devil. Children get dirty, their equipment gets scuffed, stained and worn. The stroller itself is made out of a heavy canvas-type fabric. We haven't had any such scuffing that hasn't wiped off with a cloth but in any event, it is a stroller. Scotchguard it if you must.Read more ›
-Rolls great on rough surfaces
-Comfortable push for a me at 5'11'', don't have to alter my stride at all, and I can steer one handed
-Seems huge when open, and compact when folded
My child is now 14 months old, and he's my first so going into this I didn't really know that much about strollers.
I had always walked a lot. I have dog that I still try to walk at least once a day, plus I spend time at farmer's markets, state fairs and such on a regular basis. I knew that I wanted a stroller that would allow my child to participate in these activities and for both of us to be comfortable. I live in an older neighborhood and the sidewalks are often in poor condition.
I debated extensively last fall about purchasing the City Mini or the City Elite. Both seemed to have great canopies, the ability to steer with one hand, and superb folding mechanism. The Mini looked perfect for the mall and for tossing in the car and the Elite looked perfect for rough sidewalks and parks. I was concerned that the Mini would not be better than a typical umbrella stroller on rough surfaces and that the Elite was too big and bulky for everyday use. I couldn't decide.
This spring the GT was released and it seemed the the perfect combination of the features I wanted. I have to say I love it!. My little one seems so comfortable in the seat and he has plenty of room to grow. The fold option works great, the hand brake instead of foot brake is terrific. We haven't had to use the huge canopy yet, but it will be handy. The recline seems great, I don't think we will use it a ton, but when he falls asleep it will be perfect. I have owned the stroller for about 10 days and have used it at least 8 times already. Since it is still only March in Iowa I anticipate getting years of use out of this stroller.
My only suggestion would be that it would be great if the parent console was included.
