Candor lost his brother and the leader of the cougar shifters in their territory to rogues. Now Candor has to become their leader.
Ava lost her mother in a tragic accident. Unable to afford their apartment in California, she moves to Colorado to live with her mother's brother and his family. She hasn't see her aunt or uncle since she was a child and had never met her young cousins.
Ava meets Candor at the hardware store. Feeling over whelmed with the loss of her mother she runs into him than nearly falls at his feet. He is the first shifter she has met. He is kind to her and her aunt, even though her uncle hates shifters and is very vocal about it.
Candor can't get Ava out of his head. He has never been attracted to a human woman before. With rogues in his territory he has no time to explore what that attraction might mean.
Candor once again comes to Ava's rescue when she and her young cousin wander into his territory and a rogue finds them. Again after a blow up with her uncle, he takes her home with her.
When her young cousin goes missing, Candor mobilizes the cougars in his territory to help find her.
Fast paced, and a little steamy. A nice holiday epilogue to wrap up their story.
Candor, thrust into leadership of his cougar pack upon the murder of his brother by rogue shifters, isn't looking for a mate. When he meets Ava, however, he's almost immediately lost to his attraction to her. Unfortunately, Ava's uncle has a strong prejudice against any type of shifter - viewing them as dangerous animals and not much more. As his inner animal insists that he get closer to Ava, he continues to try to find the rogues that are responsible for his brother's death.
Neither of them realize that when danger comes to Candor's doorstep, it will pull his mate right into the midst of the trouble.
Candor is strong and primal, with a soft side for his Ava. Ava, trying to overcome her own loss, finds her salvation in this man. Their relationship is intense and, while the story is short (this is a novella), the story comes to a satisfactory conclusion. Readers who enjoy a dash of mystery with their paranormal romance will enjoy this story.
A fun new series of short romances.
I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and this is an honest review.
This fast-paced, intriguing, short read deals with some heavy issues including grief and (shifter) prejudice. Candor, a cougar shifter, and Ava, a human, are likeable and well matched. The sexual suspense is as well done as the rogue shifter suspense.
I could not put this down and I was reading while I worked. I loved the interweaving of family and fated mates. Ava’s uncle’s preconceived assumptions regarding shifters are put to the test and it is that test that truly makes this book come alive.
We are only two Mondays into this series, but I already love it!
Note: While I received this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.

Ava has just lost her mother to a tram crash in California, after being evicted she has no other choice than to go to Colorado to her Uncle Trent, her Mom's sister. She is putting on a strong front but underneath she is crying her heart out.
Candor has just buried his brother Xander and taken over leadership of his cougar family. He vows to find his brother's murder and discover who the rogue who did it.
A chance meeting in the store when Candor prevents a nasty faceplant for Ava brings the two together when they start to have feelings for one another but will Ava's Uncle Trent who is vehemently opposed to shifters allow them to have a relationship? Find out for yourself if shifter romances are your addiction just like me.
I voluntarily read an advance copy and have not been compensated in any way for this honest opinion.
