An endearing read that shows the depths you'll go for those you love. While I found the beginning to be a bit slow and the ending good but a little rushed, what really hooked me was the intense chemistry that Dominic and Cat share. Together they struggle in opening up and trusting again but really they find the one person who understands them more than they'd have ever dreamed. Therefore, while I wasn't a fan of Dominic's arrogant self in the beginning, I enjoyed how he (and Cat) opened up (to each other and the reader) as this novel progressed. It was all very heartwarming and sweet.
I recommend this novel to those looking for a meaningful contemporary romance.

Seven years ago ER doctor, Cat Hayes, suffered a devastating loss. She was engaged to be married and pregnant with their first child. Serious, life-threatening and life-altering problems were found on the ultrasounds and tests. It was horrific news and babies born with this illness usually didn't live past a couple of days. The man she loved and planned to marry didn't want anything to do with a less than perfect child. He was a pediatrician and should have been there for her. He wasn't and she ended the engagement. She gave birth prematurely but the baby didn't make it beyond a couple of days.
She has grieved for the past seven years unable to move past this tragedy. She stopped living, only working, and her colorful world turned to shades of neutral. She was speaking at a medical convention in Barcelona and ran into the gorgeous and sexy, yet arrogant and somewhat mean, Dr. Dominic Edwards. They spent one amazing day and night together. There was a misunderstanding and he willingly let her believe the worst of him. She headed for the door and he angrily opened it letting her know he wanted her to leave, as well.
You can imagine what transpired after she arrived home, bringing an unsuspecting souvenir with her. She was sad that she was pregnant by a dishonest man. She made the easy decision to keep this pregnancy to herself and not tell him until she knew whether the baby was afflicted, as well, and until she passed the 25th week benchmark which is when she delivered and lost her son, Thomas. She, then, tried to find him but he was now no longer at the hospital where he told her he worked. He also quite bluntly and hurtfully told her, in no uncertain terms, that he didn't stay in one place very long nor did he stay with any one woman. He made it clear he did not make love...he just wanted to do the down and dirty! All this was said after they had been together. He actually didn't care what he said or how he hurt her or anyone else. It was sad, for me, because he was unnecessarily cruel and mean.
The hospital was advertising for a replacement for a doctor in the ER who was going on a six-month maternity leave. Dominic has been watching the openings close to where Cat lived because he couldn't get her out of his mind since the time they spent together. He thought if he could accept a temporary position somewhere near her maybe they could try out a relationship.
This was a pretty good read and it held my attention throughout. I have to admit that Dominic was not an easy man to like. Yes, I liked him at the end but he was just not a very kind man for almost all of the book and we didn't really see him and Cat together very much, either. Not near enough for me. I like my men gorgeous, rugged and somewhat alpha but tender and caring towards the woman. This was almost completely absent till the end. He would also go 2 or 3 weeks at a time with no contact with Cat and by then she was already about 35 weeks. It just made a loud statement, in my mind, the type of man Dominic really was and I certainly found him lacking.
