With so many cookie cutter saxophonist on the smooth jazz scene today, it is refreshing to find a talent who is creating his own niche. If you're like me, a song has to catch and keep your attention in the first 30 seconds. To do this it has to be unique from anything else I've ever heard. This young man crosses genres with elements of R&B,Hip Hop, Gospel, Rock and Fusion influences which he mixes into a unique and entertaining smooth jazz gumbo. If he continues to think outside the box creatively he will clearly seperate himself from the rest of the pack. I look forward to future projects from this great talent.

The more I hear it, the more I like it. Check out "In Love Again" then "Stay With Me Tonight" then of course "Babysoul". Those just happen to be my favorites but there's really not a bad song on the CD. Smooth jazz radio will do this CD no justice. It may be next year before they discover the really good songs on it. Do yourself a favor and get your own copy. Never heard of this guy before but if he can continue to put out music like this he'll be around for a while. Nice job!

When you listen to Jackiem Joyner's CD Babysoul, it's hard to believe that this is the dawn of a new talent. He is truly an old soul and it's evident in his sound. "This Time Around" has a solid sound that is usually found in much old players. The title track, "Babysoul" makes you want jitterbug, you just can't help yourself. Jackiem does have the class of Grover Washington, something that has been missing for a long time. He also has the smoothness of Gerald Albright, a certain cool that is unmistakably elegant.
I highly recommend you give this young man a listen, you'll be glad you did.

This young man's journeymen status was not wasted, as it would appear he has honed his skills, (as his talent goes without question) and along with other notables, for instance Peter White and his current label have produced a throughly enjoyable freshman album. A lovely mixture indeed!

Awesome saxophone player ...totally brilliant in his delivery of playing. I was blown away by his style of music. I would love to see him perform live. I purchased every CD that he has. The man is very gifted, what a pleasure to listen to.

I am a very critical listener, both from a musical standpoint, because I am a saxophonist, and a recording quality standpoint, because I am an audiophile with a high resolution music playback system.

With that said, I really like this CD. I like every song on the CD. The recording quality is excellent and Jackiem's playing is top notch. I can't wait to hear what he is going to follow this up with.

I usually have Directv on during the nite to sleep by. I awoke recently to the sound of Elevation by JJ and immediately fell in luv w/ it. I got up right then and ordered the CD. Several days went by and I recvd notice it had been shipped and delivered. I did not recv the item but u were kind enuf to send me another copy. I appreciated that tremendously. Now It just so happens I've purchased an MP3 download of a Marc Antoine track entitled
"Spooky," and another by a duet. Guess what? "Spooky" did not down load to my C hard drive though I was charged for it. Though I've had an account with you for several years, (originally with CD Now for my music) now I find 2 mishaps in the same 3 week period. That seems most strange to me. I don't mind the .99 cents, its just the inconvienice of not getting the tune. I've always liked the Boz Scaggs original track but was impressed with Mr. Antoine's version. I attempted to download it again 2 days ago and got a screen message telling me I had already bought the track. Should I reorder it? As I said above, I don't care about the cost, I just don't want to cause an error on my PC/laptop. Please advise!!!!

Rest assured I do care fondly of the Joyner album, Its quite nice as a listening piece.

Respectfully Yours

Smooth jazz --particularly the numberless cliche-happy saxophonists-- usually makes me cast about for ANYTHING less glossy and consumer-driven. Also, I get a nervous eye tic just hearing the frills, trills and grace notes that are compulsory for sax in this genre. I heard the track "Lola" on pandora and immediately had the thought, "This guy sounds different!" And he is: stunning tone, good improviser with command of chord changes and substitutions, better developed compositions than most smooth jazz artists (in the case of at least some of his writing), and --most important-- restrained artistic use of the trills and grace notes. I discovered at least 4 tracks on this cd that are much finer than the vast majority of music in the genre. Thanks, Jackiem, keep breaking new ground.... and never forget Cannonball [5 stars for "Lola", "Unforgiven" and "Say Yes", 3 to 4 stars for the rest].
