So many modern regency era stories abandon plot easily once things get steamy, but thankfully Cecelia Rene understands that a happy ending needs to be satisfying to the issues laid before the characters at the start. Remington has vowed to never marry and even the gossip rags know it. But a woman that many would deem unsuitable for him, Lady Olivia St. John catches his eye and his attention. She's not the typical slip of a girl, she's got curves and our hero celebrates them instead of thinking less of her for them. The way the author gives us an idea of what society sees through the little gossip headlines at the top of each chapter is a fun little play on the world and reminds us that cattiness is not a modern thing. While their story unfolds we see the dynamics within their group which lays the groundwork for the future books in the series, and these things continue through the story right to the end. We get the steamy moments and a fully thought out plot that leaves you sad that it is over, but happy that there are more books on the way.
If you like romance, this book is for you. Cecelia doesn't disappoint.
Remington proves to be surprisingly romantic. When some angst arises between the 2 main characters, I thought the heroine handled it rather immaturely. But her character is young and inexperienced with relationships. Remington is really also inexperienced with relationships, so it is understandable that their communications is not seamless. Poor communication compounds the misunderstanding between herself and the hero. In the last 5 or so chapters of the book the stakes get raised dramatically and there are several very surprising developments.
I thought this book was well-written and very easy to read. The main characters were interesting, the secondary characters were vivid, and the villains were incredibly evil. The intimate scenes between Remington and Olivia included a great deal of emotion. I would have liked to know more about what happened to the villains at the end. I also would really love to know more about what happens with Olivia’s cousin Julia. I will definitely be on the lookout for a second book!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review, and also purchased a copy on Amazon.

Remington Warren, the Duke of Karrington, is immediately taken with Lady Olivia, but fights his desire because he is “The Bachelor Duke”, and plans to never marry. Lady Olivia, or Livie, is not your typical debutante and the gossips are not kind to her. Despite that, Karrington can’t seem to stay away from Livie, but secrets from his past come back to haunt him. Will Livie forgive him?
