If I wanted a terrific guide about getting back to basics and learning how generations before us survived, this would be the book. It has 100s of great projects you can really do, step-by-step instructions, and an abundance of (more than 500) full-color photographs and illustrations. Making jams, cheeses, dyes, toys, and rugs, raising livestock, even building a log cabin and many more helpful topics are covered in an understandable way to get you off the couch and into a healthy, rewarding, green, and self-sufficient life style. I recommend it highly!

Like other books I have purchased, this book was packed with information that was easy to understand and well written out. There is a Plethora of information for anyone who is looking to start thier own country style living or going off grid. To me this book is a must have for anyone looking to start any type of back to the basics of off grid living. A must for any preppers library.

I purchased this book hoping to get an overview on some topics. What I got instead was a wealth of information. The author obviously has first-hand knowledge of the subjects in this book. I have not managed to read very far into it yet, as there is a lot of information and I am currently unable to devote time to sit and read very often. I have however, flipped through the chapters and read a bit of each of them and have been quite impressed with all I've found in it.

Since we have purchased land and are now planning our home and garden, I can see myself referring to this book constantly.

This book gives me so many ideas on what I can do with my land. I don't have much of it, but I know that I can certainly do something with it. This book helps you with raising chickens, building hutches, recipes you can use from your harvest. I know that once we get our homesteading project really working, this book and its ideas will come in extremely handy.

This book has a lot of information, with wonderful suggestions as to how to layout a property, descriptions and drawings of animal pens and detailed information as to how much work a homestead with lots of animals really is. I thought it was great.

Great book with diverse knowledge. Good reference for the experienced and great starting place for beginners. The kindle conversion could have been better as a lot of the graphics and diagrams are cut or too small but for the price it is still totally worth it.

I bought all three handbooks by Abigail R. Gehring: The Back to Basics Handbook; The Homesteading Handbook; and The Ultimate Self-Sufficiency Handbook. I thought they would complement each other. But they contain a lot of the same information. I keep them in my prepping library. I ended up giving one book, The Ultimate Self- Sufficiency Handbook to my sister-in-law as a birthday gift and she loves it. I kept the other two because they had what I mostly wanted. I do like all three books because they are lots of pictures and diagrams which make them really easy and enjoyable to read. The canning information in all three books is really my favorite part!!
