I have been (still am) skeptical of the medical profession who have thrown countless prescriptions my way to stop my pain (Percocet since 1997), all the while hoping and praying that I would find a doctor that would heal, not just treat, my conditions. The topic of alternative medicine always surfaced but I blew it off as “magical mumbo-jumbo”. But then a doctor, Harvard Grad at that, enlightened me on something awesome: most medical students are told to encourage the faith of the patient. If they believe God can cure, encourage them to continue to pray for healing. The mind is a powerful tool that, if used for good, results in good things happening.
This book has provided me with a little extra hope. I have tried almost everything to relieve the pains, but the author’s brilliant journey outlined in this book was a source of empathy and sympathy for me. What has worked for her may just work for me too as I am a strong believer in God and his healing powers. Not to say I will give up on traditional medicine; but I am impressed with the homeopathic touch newer doctors are bringing to the table.
So overall, this is the author’s life story battling a chronic disorder through her personal journey of faith. And since I can relate and since I enjoyed “experiencing” her road to triumph, I can only say “Wow!Read more ›
Like the author, I listened to the medical doctors for far too many years. I allowed them to prescribe medications that further degraded my ability to function. Her journey like mine, is one of knowledge and awareness. Whenever illness destroys our very lives, we are forced to slowly discover the road to health on our own. It seems as if it's far too easy to prescribe mind-numbing drugs to take away the pain. I remember screaming one day that I wanted exercise and diet advice. I demanded they help me learn to heal. This is the journey described in "Back to Bienville". Faith was part of my journey just as much as compassion and courage were.
For anyone who struggles against insurmountable odds, this story will provide insight and guidance.Read more ›
