The only reason I gave it 4 stars is though I downloaded the digital copy to my iPad I can't watch it anywhere but in the US. Kind of defeats the purpose of having a digital copy if I can't watch it while traveling.
Back To The Future is a timeless (heh) classic. It has humor, it has charm, it has an excellent and well constructed story that is arguably the basis for most modern science fiction and time travel based fiction. The only thing that is wrong with this film is that the third act begins to drag without much of a driving conflict beyond that of the overall plot, which is 'get back to the future'.
Back To The Future Part II is a great sequel with a thrilling story about the dangers of time travel and how, in the hands of someone corrupt and evil, can become a powerful and deadly weapon. The weakest part about this film is arguably the part that people remember the most; the off-kilter representation of a VERY futuristic 2015. The entire reason for Marty to have gone TO the future (along with his girlfriend Jennifer, who is QUICKLY written out of the movie because the story has no way of making her important) is weak and doesn't feel very thrilling and is otherwise wrapped up quickly and without much dramatic tension. The main chunk of the film, with Marty and Doc having to correct the timeline due to MArty's greedy actions is where the bulk of the film's entertainment laies, and much like the first film, ultimately influenced the portrayal of time travel within science fiction with it's take on alternate timelines and realities caused by changes to the past.
The movie does however start to feel a bit too familiar when it enters the final act, as we return to 1955 and relive the events of the original film from what amounts to a different camera angle, but it does carry the momentum through to the end, providing a satisfying conclusion to the story and more than a few plot hooks for the finale.
Back To The Future Part III is a silly film that falls flat on it's face in most respects. Marty is forced to go back in time to save Doc and winds up in the Wild West for no other reason than it seemed as if they wanted to make a western movie. The plot is largely basic, fix the time machine through a series of contrived events that are complicated when Doc falls in love with a woman from the past and ultimately alters history saving her. We get another run-down of Marty vs Biff, and somehow Marty is able to fully interact and influence his own past without truly altering his 'perfect' present as presented at the end of the original film. All in all Part III felt very out of place and falls very flat as the ending to one of the most legendary film franchises, one that reshaped how Hollywood made films and helped chart new ground ofr science fiction as a whole.
Anyways enough of the tech stuff the movie had alot of cool things that i liked that many movies of today are trying to mimic or copy for success. I dont dont have many time traveling movies were good or just as good as back to the future. When you think about future, past, or time traveling one of things people would suggest is "u mean back to the future", Wish they made another back to the future or the one doc hinted about been there done that now there is only 1 other place to go.. spoiler free... no worries we all know that place belongs with star trek mostly..heheheheheeh
Wish i still had my old nike shoes, life vest the baggy jeans, simple solid shirts was a trip down memory lane for me and alot of the 80's kids that was stuck on Doc.
Terms of extras and other things included I haven't seen it all yet but plenty of interviews, trailers, docs, etc to watch. the digital copies worked or was redeemable for me. Flixster didnt accept the codes, but vudu did and now i can easily watch the ultraviolet versions on my phone too which is a nice an convenient thing to have especially now since most new movies or star wars episode 7 should have.
I hope they don't make another blu-ray version or try to milk fans with other versions. I saw there was a 25th, regular blue ray version, the flux capaciator box, steelbook etc. I swear if they do that for the 4k version am gotta quit buying back to the future and use my money for other better deals or movies that have 1 version of the movie with all the extras and remastered version in one box. Not gotta pay 20$ just to get a new trailer, or a new 5 minute interview, but everything else is the same as the previous version and you can get that previous version for way cheaper......
