"When muscles and tissues are starved of oxygen, they respond with pain messages to the brain." ~ pg. 92
Sherri A. Obermark cured herself of chronic pain and this is her story. After suffering for twenty years she finally discovered that she had TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome). As she tells her story you can understand her situation and it did at first seem hopeless.
What she explains in this book makes logical sense. By reading this book you will find out how a woman went from having severe pain while sitting or standing to having no pain. This book is a gift to the world.
I had a sore back from cleaning the shower when I started this book. By using the techniques explained in this book I was pain free by the time I finished reading it. Anyone can benefit from this book, especially as they get older. TMR (Total Muscular Release) is explained step by step and it seems to really work.
So this book works especially well for back pain but you will also want to read it if you have knee pain, shoulder pain, neck pain or other muscle pains in your body. The techniques in this book may help you feel better in days or weeks. For me the methods explained started working right away.
Please consult with your doctor before trying anything in this book. By telling your doctor what you are doing you may spread the word on how well this works.

From the Author
Dear Readers and Potential Readers,
This book is for anyone suffering with mild to severe chronic pain. If you have tension-based pain that lasts for three months or more - there is something that is continuing to cause your pain.
For me it was muscle tension caused by negative emotions, and it was as simple as that. Contracted muscles restricted the blood flow to that part of the body, which reduced the available oxygen, and that caused the pain. The pain continued until the blood flow and oxygen were restored.
Once I was able to break that tension-contraction-restricted blood flow-lack of oxygen pattern, everything changed for me. I did some work to minimize the effects of negative emotions, and within two months I was pain-free. I believe this method can work for anyone suffering from a similar condition.
During this personal health journey, I suffered endlessly with chronic low-back pain, plantar fasciitis, sciatica, and a baffling series of other pains and aches. I believed at the time that I was suffering from some sort of musculoskeletal disease, which I now know was not true. There was nothing wrong other than the contracted muscles.
Back Story is a common sense guide to ending muscle tension, and managing destructive negative emotions. Once these two pieces of the puzzle are put together, the chronic pain loop will be broken, and the healing can begin. This series of simple practices, which I developed, can be easily implemented by almost anyone, and hopefully their results will be similar to mine.
It would be my great joy; if what I have learned and communicated in my book could help others overcome their chronic pain.

Not only does Sherri explains how to use TMR for back pain but extends the application to cope with knee pain, restless leg syndrome, and tightened calf muscles. Lastly, she lists six steps to emotional balance.
I recommend this book to anyone suffering chronic muscle pain.
My favorite quote: "An important part of TMR is breaking those bad muscle habits that are very much ingrained in your body and mind. The more you can break that grip of tension the better off you will be."
"I often felt as though I would crumble, that my body would be permanently broken, that I would be changed forever, and that I would never stand or walk again."
She had severe pain primarily in her lower back, but it often "morphed" into other parts of her body, including her legs, arms and even her feet. At one point she suffered from sciatica -- with shooting pains down her leg -- that was inexplicable by the myriad of doctors from whom she sought help.
Physicians offered vague diagnoses. "You may have a pinched nerve," said one. "You may have a compressed disc," said another. Finally, one supplied the most clinically obscure diagnosis: "You may have intervertebral disc degeneration."
None of them were correct, in Obermark's case. And still the severe spasms and very real discomfort continued.
"Trying to operate in the world when you are suffering from chronic pain comes down to an endless series of adjustments and accommodations, but few bring us comfort, and none bring us a cure."
She underwent dozens of diagnostic tests, and spent thousands of dollars on doctors and various items that were intended to ease her everyday aches and pains -- everything from ergonomic chairs to specialized platforms to raise or lower her computer keyboard. Nothing she did brought lasting relief.
Then, she finally hit on a diagnosis that worked. She was a victim, she discovered, of tension mysositis syndrome (TMS).
In this well-researched, superbly written and carefully edited book, she explains exactly why you may be suffering from the very same syndrome. Indeed, she goes to great lengths to explain the physiology of musculoskeletal pain, and offers a startlingly simple explanation of what causes TMS.
"The reason for the tension is messaging from our subconscious minds, telling our bodies to make those muscles tense. It might be difficult to hear that our own minds may be causing this pain week after week, month after month, year after year. We have seen the enemy and it is us. But take heart -- we can become friends, or at least reach an accord."
The rest of this excellent book goes into great detail on just how to overcome TMS, and return to pain-free daily living. I give it five stars, and extend heartfelt thanks to Ms. Obermark for finally bringing the prospect of relief to thousands of chronic pain sufferers.
