I'm not going to give away the story, but Ford and Becky Jean, the hero and heroine, were engaging, intriguing characters so well defined I felt like I knew them personally. Their clashes and agreements seemed so true to life as did the plight of the company and the town. Ms. Lee addressed problems plaguing small towns all over America today. Her unique way of dealing with it will make you giggle, but the solution is ingenious.
And the writing. All I can say is that the dialogue is so realistic, I swear I could hear voices saying it. The writing is evocative, colloquial, descriptive and lean, creating a fast pace that will keep you turning the pages. The sexual tension between Ford and Becky Jean and the eroticism is off the charts. I almost needed a fire extinguisher for some scenes. It's smoking.
I also liked the fact that Ford wasn't some softie, weakling kind of guy. He was take charge, even if you break a few eggs or hurt a few feelings. He had a big job to do and didn't let anything get in his way. I respected him for that. Later in the book, he displayed a softer side, but the reader always knew it was there and loved him for it. He's a true hero's hero, driven to succeed. And that made him so realistic. Becky Jean was wonderful from the get-go -- smart, opinionated, caring.
Expect the unexpected in this unique story. Bravo, Ms. Lee, this is a fantastic erotic romance that should be on everyone's tbr pile.
Ford had been gone from his hometown of Butte Plains, Texas for a long time. He took a stroll through town and noticed in disappointment most of the familiar stores were closed and boarded up. It was turning into a ghost town and Adams Manufacturing was the only thing holding the place together.
Becky Jean was always on edge with him because she was waiting for the day he would sell the factory and move back to New York, where he has a business with his best friend, Scott.
Ford is a designer that is what he is good at and Becky Jean is the marketing expert that he needs to put the factory back on the map. When he designs a new adult toy, they are both holding their breath and hoping it will be the miracle they are looking for. Little did they know how well it would do or what kind of demand they would have.
Ford got to know his employees in the time he was there and found that the employees could make whatever he put in front of them. He started to feel comfortable designing things he wanted to design and not for someone else like his firm he owned back.
This is a wonderful story that had me scratching my head and busting out laughing at Ford’s antics a few times. I loved the fight in Becky Jean to keep the factory running not only for herself but for the people of the small town. I loved the stubbornness of Ford. He didn’t want to admit that he loved designing his own products and then seeing them come to life. They were a powerful couple together, if they would just cross that line.
This unfortunately is an everyday occurrence and happens more than we all know. Companies are closing because work can be done cheaper somewhere else. I really enjoyed this first story in Roz Lee’s new series. I can’t wait to read more from her.
I highly recommend it.
Don't make the mistake I did which was to read book 2 before reading book 1. Understanding this couple, Ford and Becky, is crucial to full enjoyment of the series.
