Milla continues to stretch her boundaries by getting used to all the trappings of wealth that come with Leo. He, on the other hand, is getting used to being in a relationship at all. That both of them would consider breaching their walls shows how much each would sacrifice for the other, and in a good way.
Of course they are incidentals in the story of true hero and heroine of this saga: Clay and Corrie. These star-crossed lovers are in the midst of the pangs of unrequited love and I hope (and I pray I'm right) that this doesn't follow Romeo and Juliet in any way. I've grown too attached to these two to wish for no less than their happily-ever-after.
Jennifer Bramseth has this true gift of sucking the readers into the story and making the characters so real they could be your next door neighbors. I love those little hints which make the past characters memorable and entwine them into the story of the moment. It’s these nuggets which make the books come to life despite the Bourbonland Series coming after the Bourbon Springs Series - you just know who everybody is and it’s just like visiting with an old group of friends after a very long time apart.
There’s nothing more comfortable and cozy than snuggling up with a Jennifer Bramseth novel and Backset is another in a long line of comfy moments. I should know. I've devoured each and every one of her books and am always anticipating the next installment before the current one is over!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
As I’ve stated before, Ms. Bramseth’s descriptions are so well conceived that it is easy to envision every road, byway, house, town, and business described. She does well by all the real places she includes in her stories, and for those sites not exactly real, they come to life through her creative ability. This simply is another facet that makes her books so enjoyable. By the way, don’t miss the brief explanation of the book’s title (before the novella begins) and the “Bits About Bourbon” after the novella. It all adds more flesh and bones to make her characters, as well as their settings, REAL.
I received an ARC and am glad to provide this review.
In this novella, though short, the emotions that the story evoked were second to none. Between Leo and Milla's wedding, and the heartbreak of Clay and Coraleign's history, I certainly came away with both joy and sadness. One can only hope that Clay and Coraleigh will one day be able to overcome old anger and pettiness, not between them, but their fathers, to finally find their richly deserved HEA. Until then my heart will continue to break for the seemingly insurmountable obstacles their selfish families have burdened them with.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the author. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Once again, my emotions have been set on a roller coaster ride, and I can't wait until the next book comes out so I can ride again!
I received an ARC of Backset and am pleased to provide a voluntary and honest review of the story
