These have a higher magnification then any other children's binoculars I have seen, even more expensive ones.
That being said they still aren't that great. But my kids like them, they haven't complained. They are lightweight, which is nice on a hike. I only bought these because they are part of the backyard safari line and we want the patch. If you don't care about that then... If you can find small, cheap, lightweight, used adult binoculars that have the sights close enough just get those no matter what kind they are they will be way better. Or you can buy a monocular and then anyone can use it no mater how close or far apart your eyes are and it's automatically 1/2 the size and weight of a comparable binocular. I suggest waterproof & fog proof. Once you get water in them they are ruined. I had a moderately expensive pair of binoculars get fogged up from the humidity in our garage. And now they are ruined. Now I have a Barska 10X25 WP Blackhawk (waterproof & fog proof) monocular, which I like and cost much less than the Bear Grylis monocular with the same or less magnification. It's small enough I'm going take it on EVERY hike, we left our old one home a lot because it was so big and heavy.

Stupid waste of money if you really want to give your child binoculars that you intend for them to look through and actually be able to SEE something. Not only do they not magnify (and let's be clear, I didn't have great expectations for that) but the plastic lenses are so poor that everything is merely a blur. It says for ages 6+ but any child that old will toss them aside instantly because they completely discourage the very intent of using binoculars... to SEE BETTER! Don't insult your child with this junky toy.

If your kid has ever looked through real binoculars they will likely not be pleased with these! The optics are so poor in quality that I think our grandson thought they were broke, he was OK with them when I told him they were just a toy and for pretend. You can see through them but everything is foggy and sorta has a rainbow colored distortion to it, I'd assume because of the "kid" quality plastic used for the optics.

My 6 year old grandson has most of the Backyard safari gear. He fell in love with Dino Dan and has been an ardent Paleontologist ever since. Dino Dan: Dino Trackers!

I bought these for my 3 year old and was very disappointed from the moment we used them. The focus dial was stuck and hard to turn, and the focus itself didn't work well. The strap is flimsy and we had to tie the string in a knot to make it hang around my son's neck. Ultimately we returned the binoculars. The only thing that worked is that they look cute.

Very cute, durable and functioning. My grandsons ages 4 and 2 both love to play with them and pretend to hunt.
