This book was a disappointment. It is unlike other AARP editions that focus on real words and avoid using celebrity names and their relatives, idiotic long phrases and other useless entries. Thus, unless you know the names of movie people, authors and their works, the alma mater of celebrities, etc., you have to throw the book away. It is also poorly edited with wrong clues such as "Originally called" for "née" instead of "Maiden name".

Great crossword puzzle book! Just hard enough to make you think, which, after all, is the whole purpose isn't it? Full of double entendres (and even triple and quadruple!) that will have you pondering deeply and saying to yourself, "how did I miss that the first time around." Not too many " What was the nickname of the 2nd Duke of Earl" clues that would turn it into a how fast can you Google contest (never did understand why Crossword Puzzle Dictionaries and Solvers even exist). Fun!

These are Sunday-sized but a Wednesday difficulty level. The author says right up top in the intro, "… intelligence and wit of the New York Times crosswords but are a bit less difficult." That caveat needs to be in Amazon description, but it's not. I can write these answers as fast as I can read the clues. Truth in advertising? Fail!

I had previously purchased a different Stanley Newman crossword book from Amazon and liked it so well, I ordered another. ..and when I finish this one, will most likely purchase another one by him....Challenging and worth the money...

Your Backyard Sunday Crosswords are impossible for me to finish, making them absolutely no fun. It reminds me why I don't do most of the New York Times puzzles. Yes, they're very difficult of course, making it absolutely no fun. Yours especially doesn't give me a chance to "work around" words I need help with in remembering, or just out and out guessing. And, so many of your definitions have many word solutions, one of the reasons it's so difficult to work around to find the word solutions to other definitions. Anyhow, I'm going back to the LA Times Sunday Puzzles which give me a chance to complete the puzzles. Carol Crawford (Robert's wife)

A lot of the clues are a little obscure for me, but I am definitely not a master of crossword puzzles. I go to the crossword nexus app or dictionary quite a bit.

They are fun and a little harder than I expected, but I don't mind a good brain work out and sometimes I just put it down and come back the next day and get it!

Very enjoyable crossword puzzles. This is my second book and they are just the right challenge. Not too hard and not too easy. I will order more.
